Hi everyone,

Hope you all are doing well.  I am doing pretty good.

Monday, the 7th was the first day of class.  It started late morning.  Linda and I began the class by showing them how to use the Bible, how to look up a word in the index, a verse in the concordance, where to find a book of the Bible, and where to locate the maps in the Bible.  They had a little trouble, but that is OK because we plan to review that a little every morning until they become experts.  The ages of the students are between 15 to 20 years old.  There are mostly boys in the class.  There are about 3 to 4 girls.  Later in the day, we gave them a Christmas quiz.  One boy before the quiz told us that he knows all about it, but at the end, he realized that there are some things he does not know. : )  After dinner we watched several DVD movies.  It was about sin.  They were pretty funny, but got points across.  The students really liked watching them very much.

Tuesday, the 8th I was not feeling too good.  I was coughing most of the night and felt a little pop in my right ear.  It does not hurt now.  I did not get enough sleep, so I just went back to sleep and slept until 11am.  Linda taught the class.  They reviewed the lessons that we did yesterday and they did well!  We started to teach the class about the History of the New Testament. We had them draw maps and label some locations on the map. In the evening we had the students share their favorite Bible stories with others.  They are good students and want to learn the Gospel.  We have to repeat the lessons or stories several times until they get it.  It takes a lot of patience.

Wednesday, the 9th I felt a lot better.  I slept better last night.  Thank goodness!  In class we did a review.  The students look up words in the index, looked up book in the Bible and worked on maps.  They are doing real good!  After lunch we talked about the 4 Gospels in the New Testament, how each writer starts his story and what each talked about.  In the evening after dinner, Pastor Bud Palmer had several of his students come up front to tell us all about what they have learned.  They talked about Jehovah Witnessʼ beliefs and teachings.  It was interesting and my students really enjoyed having their fellow Deaf Ghanaians being up front.  It is easier for them to understand.  Our signs are sometimes hard for them to understand.  I enjoyed learning very much.  It was nice and relaxing to sit back and listen.

It is dusty here.  They burn trash that smolders throughout the night.  We have our windows open with fan on. (No air conditioner)  The dust and smoke bothers my throat.  I just drink water whenever I get up and pop in cough drops.  Oh well, I will survive.  I enjoy being with the Deaf Ghanaians and give them Bible lessons.  Linda and I will continue teaching the History of the New Testament all week.  I just thought up of something fun to do with the students.  I hope we will have time to do that.  I will tell you all about it in my next letter.

I miss you all

With love,

Betty Jo
