[A] THE FIRST SUNDAY IN ADVENT INTROIT: See, your righteous King comes bringing salvation. O Lord, I give my soul to YOU. Don't let me suffer shame. Don't let my enemies defeat me. My hope is with YOU, and I will never suffer shame. My enemies will suffer shame. COLLECT: Show YOUR power, O Lord, and come. Protect us and save us from the danger of our sins. We pray to YOU, O Christ, with the Father and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. ISAIAH 2:1-5 1. This is the story God told to ISAIAH, son of AMOZ, about the country named JUDAH and the city named JERUSALEM. 2. It will happen that the mountain, on that the TEMPLE was-built, that mountain will become the highest mountain, and many people will come to the TEMPLE. 3. And the people will say, "Let us go to the Lord's mountain and to the house of God's people. God will teach us everything to do, and we will obey God, because God teaches in the TEMPLE and speaks to the people on that holy mountain." 4. And God will judge the people and scold many people. The people will take their swords, and hammer and change the swords to become plows. And take the spears, and hammer and change the spears to become knives for cutting trees. The people will not war against other people and no more prepare for war. 5. Now, you people from JACOB'S family, come and follow the way that God shows you. ROMANS 13:11-14 11. Love now, because you know the time to wake-up from sleep is now, because we are more near to the end of our life now than before happened we first believed. 12. The night time is almost finished, and the new day is beginning. Now let us take-away the sins of darkness and do the good things of faith. 13. Let us live in good behavior same-as in the daytime, not in pleasure activity and drunkenness, not with bad people and SEX sinning, not with quarreling or jealousy. 14. But accept the Lord Jesus Christ and don't follow the sinful hungers of your body. GRADUAL: Rejoice, O children of God! Sing praise, children of heaven! See, your righteous King comes bringing salvation. Praise Christ. Jesus comes in the name of the Lord. In YOUR house, O Lord, we praise YOU. MATTHEW 24:37-44 37. Happens the Son of Man comes, then happens same-as the time of NOAH. 38. During the days before the flood the people ate and drank, and men and women married until the day NOAH entered the boat. 39. The people learned nothing until the flood came and destroyed all the people. The same will happen the time the Son of Man comes. 40. Then two men will stand in a field, one will be-saved and the other man destroyed. 41. Two women will be working in the kitchen, one will be-saved and the other woman destroyed. 42. Watch, because you don't-know which day your Lord is-coming. 43. You know that if the husband in the house knew the time during the night that a robber would enter the house, then the husband will stay awake and not let anyone break into the house. 44. You, also, be-ready, because the Son of Man is-coming a time that you and I don't-know. [A] THE SECOND SUNDAY IN ADVENT INTROIT: Make us new people, O God; make YOUR face smile on us, then we can be saved. Listen to us, O Great Shepherd, YOU lead YOUR people same-as sheep; YOU sit amongst the angels. YOU lead YOUR people out-of EGYPT and YOUR people filled the land. Make us new people, O Almighty God; make YOUR face smile on us, then we can be saved. COLLECT: O Lord, come and help us prepare our hearts for YOUR only Son. And because Jesus comes, we can serve YOU with pure minds. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 11:1-10 1. King DAVID'S family is the-same-as a tree cut-down; but same-as new branches grow from the cut-down tree, same a new King will come from DAVID'S family. 2. The Spirit of the Lord will give the new King wisdom and knowledge. The new King will know God's laws, and the King will respect God. 3. And the new King will be-happy to obey God. The King will not judge people by looking at their clothes or listening to gossip. 4. The new King will judge the poor people honestly and will protect the helpless people. The new King will command punishment and the bad people will die. 5. The new KIng will judge with righteousness and faithfulness. 6. Wolves and sheep will live together in peace, and LEOPARDS will sleep with young goats. Baby cows and baby lions will eat together, and little children will take-care-of them. 7. Cows and bears will eat together, and young cows and young bears will sleep together in peace. Lions will eat HAY the same-as cows eat HAY. 8. Also a baby will not get hurt if the baby plays with a snake. 9. On God's holy mountain nothing will-be bad or hurtful. All things on earth will-be full of the knowledge of God, the-same-as the seas are full of water. 10. And it will happen the new King comes from DAVID'S family, then the new King will-be shown to all nations. And the people will come to HIS Holy City and honor HIM. ROMANS 15:4-13 4. Now God wrote all these words long ago, and God wrote these words for our learning. And we can have hope through the patience and comfort of the Holy Bible. 5. And the God of patience and comfort let us think about one-another same-as Christ Jesus wants. 6. Then with one-another and with one voice you will give glory to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7. Christ accepted you, now you accept one-another. That gives glory to God. 8. Now, I say, Christ became a servant obeying the Jewish customs; and this shows God is true, and this establishes the promise to the fathers. 9. And this lets the other nations give glory to God because of HIS mercy. The Holy Bible says, "Because of this, I will preach about YOU among the other nations and sing to YOUR name." 10. And again the Bible says, "You other nations, rejoice with HIS people." 11. And again, " All other nations, praise the Lord; and all people, praise HIM." 12. And again ISAIAH says, "One Son will come from JESSE; and HE comes to reign other nations, and in HIM the other nations hope." 13. And the God of hope fill you with all happiness and peace through your faith, then you will increase in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. GRADUAL: Rejoice, O children of God! Sing praise, children of heaven! See, your righteous King comes bringing salvation. Praise Christ. Jesus comes in the name of the Lord. In YOUR house, O Lord, we praise YOU. MATTHEW 3:1-12 1. Then JOHN, the baptizer, came to the dry area in the country named Judah and began preaching. 2. JOHN said, "Change from your sinful ways, because the kingdom of heaven is near." 3. ISAIAH the prophet told us about JOHN. "Someone is shouting in the dry country. 'Prepare the way for the Lord. Make a straight road for the Lord.'" 4. JOHN'S clothes were-made from CAMEL hair. JOHN had a belt, and JOHN ate LOCUST bugs and sweet HONEY. 5. People came from the city named JERUSALEM and from all over the country named JUDAH, and from the area near the river named JORDAN. 6. The people confessed their sins, and JOHN baptized the people in the river. 7. JOHN saw many of the Jewish Law teachers and leaders of the Jewish church coming for baptism. JOHN said, "You people act same-as snakes. You think you can escape from God's punishment? 8. First, show that you are sorry for your sins. 9. You think that ABRAHAM is your father, and that will save you? I tell you that God can take these rocks and make children for ABRAHAM from rocks. 10. The AXE is ready to cut the trees, and every tree that doesn't grow good FRUIT will get cut-down and thrown into the fire. 11. I baptize you with water to show that you are sorry, but One Man will come later and baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. HE is much greater than me, and I am not good enough to carry HIS shoes. 12. HE has the farmer's shovel and will clean the BARN. HE will bring the good WHEAT into the BARN and burn the bad WEEDS in the fire that continues forever." [A] THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT INTROIT: Show us YOUR mercy, O Lord, and give us YOUR salvation. I will hear God the Lord speak, because HE will speak peace to HIS people and to HIS dear children; but HIS people must not change again to foolish living. Truly HIS salvation is near to those people honoring HIM, then glory will stay in our nation. Also the Lord will give good, and our ground will grow much food. Righteousness surrounds our God and prepares a road for HIS walking. COLLECT: Almighty God, through John the BAPTIZER YOU announced salvation; now help us to know about this salvation and serve YOU with a holy and righteous life all the days of our life. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 35:1-10 1. The dry country will be-happy and flowers will grow in the empty dirt. 2. The dry country will sing and shout with happiness. God's kingdom will be-beautiful same-as the mountains in the country named LEBANON, and beautiful same-as the growing places of the valleys. All the country will show the greatness and power of the Lord. 3. The Lord will make the tired hands become strong, and support the weak knees. 4. Tell all the disappointed people, "Be-strong and not afraid. God is coming to save you and punish your enemies." 5. The blind people will see, and the deaf people will hear. 6. The lame people will jump and dance, and the mute people will shout with happiness. Water will flow into the dry country. 7. The hot dirt will become a lake, and dry land will be-filled with spring water. The places that animals lived will grow water grass. 8. A road will go through that place named "The Holy Road." No sinner will travel on that road. No foolish people will lead astray those people walking on the road. 9. No lions will be-there; no bad animals will be-there. Those people that the Lord saves will travel home on that road. 10. God's people will arrive at the city named JERUSALEM singing and shouting with happiness. God's people will be-happy forever; always free from sadness and grief. JAMES 5:7-10 7. Have-patience, Christian friends, until the Lord comes. See the patience of the farmer waiting for the food to grow from the Fall and Spring rains. 8. You, also, have-patience. Stay strong in your faith, because the Lord will come here quickly. 9. Don't complain against one-another, Christian friends, so-that God will not judge you. You know the JUDGE is almost ready to come. 10. Christian friends, remember the prophets speaking for the Lord suffered with patience. You follow that example. GRADUAL: Rejoice, O children of God! Sing praise, children of heaven! See, your righteous King comes bringing salvation. Praise Christ. Jesus comes in the name of the Lord. In YOUR house, O Lord, we praise YOU. MATTHEW 11:2-11 2. Now JOHN in prison heard about the works of Christ. And JOHN sent some friends to speak to Jesus. 3. JOHN asked Jesus, "Are YOU that person God promised us, or do we wait for another?" 4. Jesus answered, "Go, tell JOHN the things you see and hear. 5. Blind people now see. Lame people now walk. People with the sickness named LEPROSY now become healed. Deaf people now hear. Dead people become alive. And poor people hear the Good Announcement. 6. If people never leave ME, then they stay happy." 7. Then JOHN'S friends walked away. And Jesus began to discuss about JOHN with the people. "You went into the dry country to see what, what? You want to see a tree-waving-in-the-wind? 8. Or, you go to see a man clothed with fancy things? You know men with fancy clothing live in a king's house. 9. Why did-you go, why? You wanted to see a prophet, correct? I tell you, JOHN is better than a prophet. 10. The Holy Writings tell us about JOHN: 'See, I send MY preacher and he will prepare the way before YOU arrive.' 11. I tell you truly that JOHN, the baptizer, is greater than any man living in the past. But in the Kingdom of heaven the most not important person is greater than JOHN." [A] THE FOURTH SUNDAY IN ADVENT INTROIT: O skies, send joy from above. Let the clouds rain with righteous blessings. Let the earth grow with mercy. The skies show God's glory, and the earth shows the work of HIS hands. COLLECT: O Lord, show YOUR power and come. Help us with YOUR wonderful strength and grace. Then our sins will not bother our service to YOU, but we will obey YOUR wishes through YOUR mercy and power. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 7:10-14 10. The Lord spoke again to king AHAZ. 11. "You ask the Lord your God to show you a wonderful work from deep in the world of the dead or from high in heaven." 12. King AHAZ answered, "I will not ask for a wonderful work. I refuse to tempt the Lord." 13. Then ISAIAH said, "Listen now, family of DAVID. Truly it is bad enough for you to bother other people; but will you also bother-bother God? 14. Then the Lord will show you a wonderful work. A virgin will become pregnant and give-birth to a Son, and HIS name will-be IMMANUEL." ROMANS 1:1-7 1. I am PAUL. I am a servant of Jesus Christ. God called me to preach HIS Good Announcement about Jesus. 2. God promised that Good Announcement long ago through HIS prophets in the Holy Writings. 3. That Good Announcement is about HIS Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is true Man. Jesus was-born from the family of DAVID. 4. And Jesus is truly holy God. Jesus showed HE was the Son of God through the power of HIS arising from the dead. 5. Through Jesus, God gave-me the honor, because God let me preach about Christ. God wants people in all nations to believe and obey. 6. And that means you, because God called you. God wants you to join-to Jesus Christ. 7. Now, I write this letter to all Christians in the city named ROME. God loves you, and God called you to become HIS holy people. Love to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. In YOUR house, O Lord, we praise YOU. MATTHEW 1:18-25 18. This is the way Jesus Christ was-born. Jesus' mother, MARY, was-engaged to JOSEPH. But before they got-married, JOSEPH found that MARY became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. 19. JOSEPH was a good man and didn't-want to advertize shame on MARY. No! Joseph decided instead to divorce MARY secretly. 20. But while JOSEPH was-thinking about all these things, an angel from the Lord appeared in a dream. The angel said, "JOSEPH, from the family of DAVID, don't be-afraid to marry MARY, because her baby is from the Holy Spirit. 21. Happen the baby is-born, you will name the baby 'Jesus', because HE will save HIS people from their sins. 22. All this happened same-as the Lord spoke long ago through the prophet: "The virgin will become pregnant and give-birth to a Son named IMMANUEL, that means 'God with us.'" 23. JOSEPH awoke and did same-as the angel from the Lord ordered him. 24. JOSEPH married MARY, but JOSEPH didn't sleep with MARY same-as a husband until after the baby was-born. 25. And JOSEPH named the baby 'Jesus.' [A] THE BIRTH OF OUR LORD-CHRISTMAS INTROIT: The Lord reigns. HE is dressed beautifully. HE is strong. The Lord reigns. All the earth rejoice; oceans rejoice; clouds surround HIM; HE judges with righteousness and honesty. The skies announce HIS righteousness, and all people see HIS glory. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 52:7-10 7. Truly beautiful are the feet of the announcers walking on the mountains telling about peace, salvation, and that God is King. 8. Listen to the watchers sing with joy because they see the Lord leading HIS people home again. 9. Let the destroyed city JERUSALEM begin a happy song, because the Lord comforts and saves HIS people. 10. The Lord showed HIS strength to all the nations of the earth, and they will see our Savior God. HEBREWS 1:1-9 1. Long-ago God spoke many times in different ways to our fathers through prophets. 2. Now God speaks to us through HIS Son. Jesus made the world, and God gave everything to Jesus. 3. The Son shows God's glory. The Son is God, and with the power of HIS Word the Son reigns all the world. The Son died for our sins and now reigns with God the Father in heaven. 4. The Son is greater than all the angels, because HIS name is greater than their name. 5. God never said to any angel, "You are MY Son. Today I give you the honor of MY name. I will be your Father and you will be MY Son." 6. But happened God's Son came into the world, then God said, "Let all the angels of God worship Jesus." 7. God speaks about the angels same-as spirits and servants and fire. 8. But to the Son God says, "O God, YOUR Kingdom remains forever. And YOU reign honestly and correctly. 9. YOU love correct and hate wrong. That is reason God chose YOU and gave YOU the joy of an honor above all others." GRADUAL: For us a baby is born, a Son given to us, and HE will reign. And HIS names will be Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Peace Prince. Sing to the Lord a new song, because HE does wonderful things. JOHN 1:1-14 1. The Word (Christ) was in the beginning. The Word was with God. The Word was truly God. 2. Christ was with God in the beginning. 3. Christ made all things. God sent a man by the name JOHN. 7. And JOHN came to tell the truth about the Savior to help everyone believe. 8. JOHN was not the Savior, but JOHN came to tell the truth about the Savior. 9. The true Savior coming into the world will give light to everyone. 10. The Savior came into the world. The Savior made the world, but the people in the world didn't-know the Savior. 11. The Savior came to HIS home nation, and HIS home people didn't accept HIM. 12. To all those people accepting the Savior and believing in HIM, they became the children of God. 13. The children of God are not born from parents or born from sexual hunger or born because a man wanted that child. No, these children of God are born because God wanted them. 14. Christ became a man and lived among us. We saw HIS shining greatness. This greatness is given only to a much loved Son from the Father, full of love and truth. [A] FIRST SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS INTROIT: For us a child is born, for us a Son is given. And HE will be named Wonderful Advisor, Mighty God. I will praise God for all the things HE does for us. God blesses HIS people with HIS mercy and continuing love. 8. The Lord said, "Truly they are MY people; they will be-honest with ME." Happens the correct time finally arrived, God sent HIS Son, born from a woman. Then HIS Son lived obeying the Law. 5. Jesus came to save all people controlled by the Law. And now we can become HIS children. 6. And because you are HIS children, God sent the Spirit of HIS Son into your hearts, and through the Holy Spirit we shout, "Father, Father." 7. Now, you are no more a slave. You are God's children. And because you are HIS children, you will inherit the things God has for HIS children. GRADUAL: For us a child is born, for us a Son is given, and HE will reign over all. And HE will be named Wonderful Advisor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Sing to the Lord a new song, because HE does wonderful things. MATTHEW 2:13-15, 19-23 13. Now after the Wise Men went home, one angel from God appeared to JOSEPH in a dream and said, "Arise. Escape to EGYPT with the baby and mother MARY. And stay there until I tell you. Because King Herod prepares to seek-for the baby and kill HIM." 14. And JOSEPH arose in the night and went to EGYPT with the baby and MARY. 15. And they stayed in EGYPT until King HEROD died. Then the prophet's writing happened perfectly: "Out-of EGYPT I called MY Son." 19. After Herod died, one angel from the Lord appeared in a dream to JOSEPH and said, 20. "Arise, go home to ISRAEL again with the baby and the mother, because the people before searching to kill the baby are now dead." 21. And JOSEPH arose and went to the country ISRAEL again with the baby and the mother. 22. But it happened that JOSEPH heard king ARCHELAUS reigned over JUDAH following his father, then JOSEPH was-afraid to go. And God warned JOSEPH in a dream, and he went to the country named GALILEE. 23. JOSEPH lived in a city named NAZARETH. The prophet's announcement happened perfectly: "HE will have the name, NAZARENE." [A] NEW YEARS EVE INTROIT: Our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Sing to the Lord a new song, because HE does wonderful things; HIS right hand and HIS holy arm is victorious. The Lord informed us about HIS salvation and showed HIS righteousness to the nations. HE remembers HIS love and HIS faithfulness to the people of ISRAEL; and everything on earth sees the salvation of our God. COLLECT: Lord God, heavenly Father, because YOU sent YOUR only Son to save us and YOU gave the name Jesus, help us to begin the New Year trusting in Jesus and live all our days serving HIM and praising HIS glorious name. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 51:1-6 1. Attend to me you people searching for correct things; now search for the Lord. Look you came from that place. 2. See ABRAHAM, your father, and SARAH, she birthed you. ABRAHAM was only one man before I called him, but I blessed him and gave him a large family. 3. The Lord comforts HIS people and pities all the destruction; HE will change the dry country into a beautiful growing area. Happiness and pleasure will be there, thanksgiving and hear all the singing. 4. Attend to me, MY people, and hear ME, MY nation; I give MY Laws, and MY judgment is same-as a light for the nations. 5. I come quickly doing correct things. I come to save. I will judge the nations. The land near the sea will eagerly wait for me and trust in me. 6. Look to heaven, and look to the earth. The heavens will disappear in smoke, the earth will melt-away same-as old clothes, and the people living will die same-as FLIES. But I will always save and always do the correct thing. ROMANS 8:31-39 31. What do we say about this? If God supports us, then no person can defeat us. 32. God will do anything for us. God let HIS Son suffer for us. God gave HIS Son for us all. Now with Jesus our friend, then God will truly give us all things. 33. Who will blame God's chosen people? No one! God makes HIS people alright. 34. Who can say that God's people are to blame? No one! Christ Jesus died for us, but that is not all. Jesus also arose from death. And now Jesus is with God in heaven praying to God for us. 35. Can anything separate us from Christ's love? No! Can trouble separate us from Christ's love? No! Can problems or persecution separate us? No! If we have no food or clothes, will that separate us from Christ's love? No! Will danger or death separate us? No! 36. Same-as written in the Holy Writings, "Because of Jesus we are near danger and death all the time. People think we are worth no more than sheep to be killed." 37. But in all these things we are victorious through God showing HIS love to us. 38. Yes, I am sure that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Not death, not life, not angels, not reigning spirits, nothing now or nothing in the future, 39. No powers, nothing above us, nothing below us, or anything else in the world will separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. The Lord informed us about HIS salvation and showed HIS righteousness to the nations. MATTHEW 1:18-21 18. The mother of Jesus Christ was-named MARY. Jesus became born this way. Mary was-engaged to marry JOSEPH. But before the wedding MARY became pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit. 19. JOSEPH was a good man and didn't-want to embarrass MARY in-front-of the people. JOSEPH planned to divorce MARY secretly. 20. While JOSEPH thought about everything, an angel of the Lord came in a dream. The angel said, "JOSEPH, son of DAVID, don't be-afraid to accept MARY for your wife. The baby inside her comes from the Holy Spirit. 21. She will birth a Son, and you will name the boy, Jesus, because HE will save HIS people from their sins." [A] SECOND SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS INTROIT: The Word became born and lived among us. We saw HIS glory, same-as the only Son from the Father full of love and truth. Truly it-is good to sing praises to our God, pleasant and correct to praise HIM! Praise the Lord, O JERUSALEM; praise your God, O heaven. COLLECT: O God, our Maker and Savior, YOU wonderfully made us and YOU made us YOUR people through the birth of YOUR Son, help us to always live with HIM same-as HE came to live with us. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 61:10-62:3 10. I will rejoice much because of my Lord, and my soul will be happy with my God, because God saved me and made me holy. 11. Same-as the ground grows food and flowers bloom from SEEDS, the same the Lord God will make HIS righteousness and praise to grow in-front-of the nations. 1. Because of MY people I will not be-quiet and for MY people in the city JERUSALEM I will not rest until the righteousness shines same-as a light and salvation shines same-as a fire. 2. The nations will see God's righteousness and all the kings will see HIS glory. YOU will have a new name that the Lord HIMSELF will give YOU. 3. YOU will be the same-as a beautiful crown for the Lord, and a shining diamond in the hand of God. EPHESIANS 1:3-6, 15-18 3. Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of Christ God gave every spiritual blessing from heaven. 4. Before God made the world, God chose us that we would be holy and without blame in-front-of HIM. 5. Because of HIS love God decided to make us HIS sons through Jesus Christ agreeing with HIS pleasure and purpose. 6. Let us praise God for HIS wonderful love and for the free gift God gave us in HIS dear Son. 15. For this reason since I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, 16. I have not stopped thanking God for you. I remember you in my prayers. 17. I ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Father of glory to give you HIS Spirit to make you wise and to show God to you that you will know HIM. 18. I ask that your minds be-opened to see HIS light that you will know the hope that God gives to you and the very rich wonderful blessings God promises HIS people. GRADUAL: For us a child is born, for us a Son is given, and HE will reign over all. And HE will be named Wonderful Advisor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 15. JOHN told about Christ and said, "I told you about this Christ. I said that HE will come later, but HE is more important than me, because HE lived long before me. 16. All of us received from HIM many, many gifts of love. 17. The Law was given to us through MOSES, but God's love and truth came to us through Jesus Christ. 18. No one ever saw God. The only Son of God, that Son of God the Father loves very much, that Son told us about God. [A] THE EPIPHANY OF OUR LORD INTROIT: All kings bow to HIM and all nations will serve HIM. O God, give YOUR holy Son the power to judge with righteousness and honesty. Because HE will help the poor people shouting for help, and HE will help the suffering people that no one else will help. HE will show mercy and save the weak people from death. HE will save those slave people and those suffering from beatings, because their lives are important to HIM. Let HIS name stay forever, stay same long as the sun shines. COLLECT: O God, in the past YOU led a star. And with that star YOU show YOUR only Son to the people of other nations. Now we know YOU through faith; but after this life, lead us to the full joy of YOUR glory in heaven. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 60:1-6 1. Stand, shine same-as the sun, because the glory of the Lord is shining on you. 2. Darkness covers the earth and black darkness covers the people, but the light of the Lord shines on you, and HIS glory will be with you. 3. Nations will come to see your light and kings will come near to see. 4. Look-around you and see the things happening. The people meeting together will come home. Your sons will come from far-away. Your daughters will be carried same-as children. 5. You will see this and be filled with joy. You will be nervous with excitement. The riches of the nations will be brought to you; yes, from across the sea riches will come. 6. Many CAMELS will come from the countries MIDIAN and EPHAH. People will come from the country SHEBA bringing gold and perfume. The people will tell the Good Story about the things that the Lord does. EPHESIANS 3:2-12 2. You know that God in HIS mercy gave-me this work, And God blesses you through my work. 3. God showed me HIS secret plan. I already wrote about this in another letter. 4. If you read that other letter, then you will understand the secret about Christ. 5. Long-ago people didn't-know this secret. But now God told HIS secret to HIS holy preachers and prophets. God spoke through the Holy Spirit. 6. And this is HIS secret: people from other nations, not Jewish people, now can have God's blessings through HIS Good Story. They are members of the same family. They share in the promise God made through Jesus Christ. 7. God made me a preacher of this Good Story. God gave me this work through the power of HIS mercy. 8. I am less worthy than any of God's people! But God gave me honor because HE let me preach to people in other nations about the wonderful blessings of Christ. 9. And God let me help all people understand God's secret plan. God made all things, and HE kept HIS plan secret through all past years. 10. Why? For the church to teach the angel managers and spirit powers about God's wisdom now. 11. This agrees with God's eternal plan. And God did and finished the things HE planned through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12. In joining with Jesus and through our faith in HIM, we have the courage to meet God face-to-face. GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HIS faithfulness remains forever. Give glory to the name of the Lord, bring a gift and enter HIS house. MATTHEW 2:1-12 1. After Jesus was born in the city BETHLEHEM in the country JUDEA during the time of king HEROD, wise men from the East arrived in the city JERUSALEM and said, 2. "Where is the new baby King of the Jews? We saw HIS star in the East, and we came to worship HIM." 3. King HEROD heard this and those words bothered him and all the people in the city JERUSALEM. 4. Then HEROD had a meeting with the Jewish priests and Law teachers and asked them about the place of Christ's birth. 5. They answered, "In the city BETHLEHEM in the country JUDEA, because the prophets wrote the words: 6. 'And you BETHLEHEM, in the nation JUDAH. You are not the smallest city in the country JUDAH. Because from you a King will come and HE will lead MY people, ISRAEL.'" 7. Then HEROD called the wise men in a secret meeting and asked them about the time the star first appeared. 8. And HEROD sent the wise men to the city BETHLEHEM and said, "Go and search-for the baby. After you find the baby, come and tell-me, then I can go and worship HIM also." 9. After the wise men listened to the king, they left. And the star they saw before in the Eastern sky now appeared again; and that star moved and stopped over the baby's home. 10. And happened the wise men saw the star, they rejoiced with much happiness. 11. And they came into the house and saw the Baby with MARY, HIS mother. And they knelt-down and worshipped Jesus. They opened their gifts, and gave Jesus: gold, perfume, and sweet incense-smoke. 12. And God warned them in a _dream, "Don't go to HEROD again." Now the wise men left for their home nation another way. [A] FIRST SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY INTROIT: Praise to the Lord God of ISRAEL. God does wonderful things. Praise HIS glorious name forever. YOU (Jesus) are the most perfect man and YOUR mouth speaks words of love, because God blesses YOU forever. YOUR throne, O God, will stay forever; YOU will judge YOUR kingdom honestly. YOU love righteousness and hate evil; now God put YOU higher than all angels. COLLECT: Father in heaven, happened our Savior, Jesus Christ, baptized, YOU named Jesus, YOUR dear Son. In our baptism we became joined with Christ, and we receive eternal life through Christ. Help us all to do as YOUR children, as we promised in our baptism. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 42:1-7 1. Here is MY Servant. I support HIM. I chose HIM. I filled HIM with MY Spirit. HE will judge the nations correctly. 2. HE will not shout and will not speak loudly. HE will not preach in the street. 3. HE will not break a branch from a tree. HE will not put-out a candle. HE will honestly judge all people. 4. HE will not fail or be-disappointed. HE will establish honest judgment on the earth. Far-away nations eagerly wait for HIS teaching. 5. God made the skies and all the stars. God made the earth and all living things on earth. God gave life and breath to all the people. And now the Lord God says to HIS Servant: 6. "I, the Lord, called YOU and gave YOU power to judge the earth. I will make a promise to all people through YOU. I will shine MY Light on the nations through YOU. 7. YOU will open the eyes of the blind people, and YOU will free the people living in the dark prisons." ACTS 10:34-38 34. PETER began speaking: "Now I understand. God truly does the same for all people. 35. Because any person honoring God and doing correct, then God accepts that person. The color of skin indifference. 36. You know God announced to the Jewish people that Jesus Christ gives us peace. Jesus is Lord reigning all people. 37. You know JOHN preached about baptism in the country of the Jews. Then Jesus did wonderful works beginning in the country named GALILEE. 38. And you know God the Father gave the Holy Spirit and power to Jesus. You know Jesus travelled-around helping people and healing people from the devil's reign. Jesus can do these things because God the Father was with HIM." GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM, all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HE stays faithful forever. Give glory to the Lord, and enter HIS house bringing a gift. MATTHEW 3:13-17 13. Jesus travelled from GALILEE to the river named JORDAN, because Jesus wanted to get-baptized by JOHN. 14. But JOHN tried to stop HIM. JOHN said, "I should get-baptized by YOU! But YOU come to me?" 15. Jesus answered, "Let us do it MY way for now, because that is required." JOHN said, "Alright!" 16. Jesus got-baptized. And then Jesus came out-of the water, and the skies opened, and Jesus saw the Spirit of God in a dove coming-down on HIM. 17. A voice from heaven said, "This is MY Son, I love HIM, and HE makes ME happy." [A] SECOND SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY INTROIT: I don't hide YOUR righteousness in my heart; I speak about YOUR faithfulness and saving work. O my God, I want to obey YOUR Word. I wait patiently for the Lord, and HE heard my crying. HE helped me out-of my troubles, and HE gave-me strength. HE taught me a new song to praise my God. COLLECT: Almighty and eternal God, YOU reign all things in heaven and earth. With mercy hear YOUR people pray and give us YOUR peace all the days of our life. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 49:1-6 1. Attend to me, you people living near the sea; attend you people living far-away. Happened I was in my pregnant mother, the Lord called me. Before my mother gave-birth, God announced my name. 2. God made my mouth same-as a sharp sword, and God hid me in the shadow of HIS hand. God made me same-as a thin arrow, and God hid me in HIS arrow bag. 3. God said to me: "You are MY servant to ISRAEL. Through you I will show MY glory." 4. But I said, "I worked for nothing. I used-up my strength for nothing. But truly the Lord is ready to do the correct thing for me, and God is ready to praise me." 5. And now says the Lord, "I made you in your pregnant mother to become MY servant and to bring JACOB again to ME and to gather ISRAEL in-front-of ME." The Lord gave honor to me, and my God gives me strength. 6. God says, "It is not enough that you are MY servant to bring the families of JACOB and gather the saved children of ISRAEL. I have also made you same-as a light to shine on the nations, that MY salvation will go to the far parts of the world. I CORINTHIANS 1:1-9 1. This letter is from PAUL and from our friend SOSTHENES. God called me to become a preacher for Christ Jesus. 2. We send this letter to the church of God in the city named CORINTH. God made you holy through Christ Jesus. God called you to become HIS holy people, together-with all people in every place worshipping our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is our Lord, and Jesus is their Lord. 3. Love to you and peace from God our Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ. 4. Daily I thank God for you, because God gave HIS love to you in Jesus Christ. 5. And HE made you wise in everything you speak and know about Jesus. 6. And HE established the Good Announcement about Jesus in you. 7. Then you will have every gift, while you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to come again. 8. God will make you strong to the end, and HE will take-care-of you. Then you will be without blame on the day our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 9. God is faithful. HE invited you to join with HIS Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM, all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HE stays faithful forever. Give glory to the Lord, and enter HIS house bringing a gift. JOHN 1:29-41 29. The day after JOHN baptized Jesus, JOHN saw Jesus coming. JOHN said, "Look! There is the Lamb from God. HE takes-away the sin of the world! 30. HE is the same Man I told you before, 'One Man will follow me, but HE is better than I, because HE lived before I was-born.' 31. In the past I myself didn't-know HIM. But I came baptizing people. Why? For showing Jesus to the Jewish people. 32. I saw the Holy Spirit come from heaven in a dove and stay on Jesus. 33. I didn't know Jesus, but God sent me for baptizing people, and God said to me, 'You will see the Holy Spirit come-down and stay on a Man. And that Man will baptize people with the Holy Spirit.' 34. I finished saw that happen. And I tell you, Jesus is the Son of God." 35. The next day JOHN was with two friends. 36. Jesus walked by, and JOHN said, "Look! There is the Lamb from God." 37. The two friends heard that and they followed Jesus. 38. Jesus stopped, looked-back, and said, "Are you searching for something?" They said, "Teacher, where do you live?" 39. Jesus answered, "Come, I will show you." Then Jesus and the two men went to the place Jesus lived. The two men stayed with Jesus that day, because the time was about four p.m.. 40. One man heard JOHN speak and followed Jesus, his name was ANDREW, the brother of PETER. 41. ANDREW found his brother and said, "We found the Christ!" [A] THIRD SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY INTROIT: From the east to the west the name of the Lord is praised. Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord. Praise the Lord now and forevermore. The Lord is praised in all the nations, HIS glory praised in heaven. HE helps the poor people out-of their broken houses, and puts them in seats next-to the princes. To the woman she can't have any babies, HE gives her children to make her happy. COLLECT: O Lord God Almighty, YOU always in the past gave several gifts from the Holy Spirit to YOUR servants, give us YOUR gifts today and give us the knowledge to use the gifts to YOUR honor and glory and the good of other people. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 9:1-4 1. The people grieving will not continue sad. First, God made people living in the country named ZEBULON and NAPHTALI humble, but then God will give glory to that land spreading to the sea and to the country across the river named JORDAN near the Sea named GALILEE. 2. The people walking in darkness will see a great light. To those sad people living in the land, a light will shine. 3. The smallest nation will become a great nation. The people will be-happy same-as people celebrate at harvest time, or same-as soldiers are-happy in war victory. 4. God will break the YOKE burdening HIS people. God will break the ROD beating on HIS people. God will break the STAFF used to chase HIS people; the same-as God did during the time of the MIDIANITES. I CORINTHIANS 1:10-17 10. My friends, our Lord Jesus Christ wants you all to agree. Don't become separated. But have the same thoughts and make all decisions together. 11. Why? Because people from CLOE'S group tell me about your arguments. 12. You say various things. Some of you say, "I follow PAUL." And some of you say, "I follow APPOLOS." And some of you say, "I follow PETER." And some of you say, "I follow Christ." 13. What happened? Is Christ divided? Did you get-baptized in PAUL'S name? 14. I thank God I baptized none of you, except two men named CRISPUS and GAIUS. 15. Then none of you can say you got-baptized in my name. 16. Oh, yes, I did baptize STEPHANUS and his family. I can't remember if I baptized any more people. 17. Christ didn't send me to baptize people. No! HE sent me to preach HIS Good Announcement. I don't use fancy words and clever speech, because fancy words and clever speech takes-away the power from Christ's death on the cross. GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM, all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HE stays faithful forever. Give glory to the Lord, and enter HIS house bringing a gift. MATTHEW 4:12-23 12. JOHN the Baptizer was-put in prison, and Jesus heard about that. Then Jesus travelled to the country named GALILEE. 13. Jesus didn't live in the city named NAZARETH now. HE went to live in the city named CAPERNAUM, a small town near the lake in the area named ZEBULON and NAPHTALI. 14. That made the words of the prophet ISAIAH truly happen. ISAIAH said: 15. "The country around ZEBULON and NAPHTALI near the sea named GALILEE, people not Jewish live there, 16. Those people sitting in darkness will see a great light. The light will shine on people sitting in dark death." 17. Then Jesus began preaching: "Change your hearts from your sins, because the kingdom of heaven is almost here." 18. Jesus walked near lake GALILEE. HE saw two brothers, SIMON PETER and his brother ANDREW, both catching fish with a net. 19. Jesus said to the two men, "Come and follow ME, and I will teach you to go-fishing, not for fish, but to catch people." 20. Quickly the two men dropped their nets and followed Jesus. 21. Then Jesus continued walking and saw two more brothers named JAMES and JOHN, the sons of ZEBEDEE. They were all fixing their nets. Jesus called them. 22. Quickly they decided to leave their boat and their father and follow Jesus. 23. Jesus travelled through all the country named GALILEE, teaching in the Jewish churches and preaching the Good Announcement about the kingdom of God. Jesus healed people from every sickness. [A] FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY INTROIT: The Lord watches the way of the righteous, but the way of evil people will be destruction. Happy is the person that doesn't listen to the advice of the evil people and doesn't together-with sinners and doesn't join with the mocking people. But happy is the person that enjoys obeying the laws of the Lord and thinks about the laws day and night. That person is the same-as a tree near the river growing good food and the leafs never wither. Everything the righteous person does succeeds. The evil person always fails. The evil person is the same-as weeds blown-away. Now the evil people will not stand in-front-of the judge; and sinners will not stand among the righteous people. COLLECT: Almighty God, YOU know that we live with many dangers around us every-day and because of our sin we often weak, give us YOUR strength and protection to help us during all dangers and temptations. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. MICAH 6:1-8 1. Attend to the Lord's words. Stand-up and speak your complaint to the mountains. 2. Hear the Lord's complaint against HIS people and HIS argument with ISRAEL, you mountains and earth. 3. "O MY people, what did I do against you? How did I make you tired? Answer me! 4. I lead you out of the country named EGYPT and freed you from slavery; I sent MOSES, AARON and MIRIAM to lead you. 5. MY people, please remember the things king BALAK planned against you, and the answer BALAAM, son of BEOR, gave to the king, and the things that happened from the city named SHITTIM to the city named GILGAL that you will know the righteous things the Lord did." 6. What must I bring to the Lord? Must I bow-down? Must I bring a one year old cow for a burnt offering? 7. Will the Lord be-happy with ten thousand goats and a thousand rivers of OLIVE OIL? Must I give to the Lord my first born son to pay for my sin? 8. The Lord finished informed you about your good gift. The Lords wants you always to do correct, show mercy, and to walk with humility. I CORINTHIANS 1:26-31 26. My friends, now think about how God called you! Before, you were-not wise; before, you were-not powerful; before, you were-not rich. Those are the things people think are important. 27. But God chose things people think are foolish. Why? To make wise people feel ashamed. God chose things people think are weak. Why? To make strong people feel ashamed. 28. God chose things people look-down-their noses-at and don't like and think are worthless. Why? To destroy the things people think are really important. 29. Then no person can boast in-front-of God. 30. But God gives you life in Christ Jesus. From Jesus we get wisdom and righteousness and a holy life and salvation. 31. Then, same-as the Holy Writings says, "If you want to boast, then boast the Lord." GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM, all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HE stays faithful forever. Give glory to the Lord, and enter HIS house bringing a gift. MATTHEW 5:1-12 1. Jesus saw a large crowd of people coming. Then HE went-up a hill. 2. Jesus sat and began teaching HIS twelve friends. Jesus said: 3. "Blessed are people with a spirit of poverty, because they have the kingdom of heaven. 4. Blessed are people crying, because God will comfort them. 5. Blessed are humble people, because they will get all the things God promises. 6. Blessed are people wanting to obey God, because God will give the things they want. 7. Blessed are people filled with mercy, because God will show mercy to them. 8. Blessed are people with pure hearts, because they will see God. 9. Blessed are people making peace, because God will name them HIS children. 10. Blessed are people getting-punished for doing good, because they have the kingdom of heaven. 11. Blessed are you happens people mock you, punish you, curse you, and tell lies about you, because you love ME. 12. Remain happy, because you will have a great blessing in heaven. People also punished the prophets long ago." [A] FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY INTROIT: The light shines for the holy, loving, and righteous person during the darkness. Praise the Lord. Happy is the person that honors the Lord and obeys HIS commands. Much wealth that person has and righteousness stays forever. That person will not fear sad stories, but will stay strong and trust the Lord. That person feels safe and will not fear; finally that person will defeat all the enemies. That person gives gifts to poor people and righteousness stays forever. COLLECT: O God, our loving Father, through YOUR Holy Spirit YOU put YOUR love in the hearts of YOUR faithful people. Give YOUR servants a strong mind and body, that we can love YOU with all our strength and with all our heart and do things pleasing in YOUR sight. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 58:5-9 5. Do you think I am happy happens a man gives-up eating for one day? Do you think I am happy happen you bow-your-head and clothe yourself in funeral clothes? Do you think that pleases the Lord? 6. You untie the sins binding you, and take-off the YOKE burdening you, then I am happy. Let the slaves go free and remove every YOKE. 7. You share your food with hungry people, invite poor people and people without homes into your house, give clothes to people without clothes, and not stick-up-your-nose to your family, then I am happy. 8. Then you will shine same-as the sunrise, and you will-be quickly healed. Your righteous life will-be seen and the glory of the Lord will protect you. 9. Then you will pray, and the Lord will answer. You will ask-for help, and the Lord will say, "Here I am." I CORINTHIANS 2:1-5 1. Happen I went to you, my Christian friends, I didn't go to tell you God's truth with fine speech or wisdom. 2. While I was with you, I spoke about Jesus Christ nailed to the cross. 3. I went to you weak and afraid and nervous. 4. Happen I spoke and preached, I didn't use clever words to influence you, but I let the Holy Spirit and HIS power prove the truth to you. 5. So-that your faith will not depend on man's wisdom but on God's power. GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM, all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HE stays faithful forever. Give glory to the Lord, and enter HIS house bringing a gift. MATTHEW 5:13-20 13. You are the-same-as salt in the world. If salt loses its sweetness, salt can't become sweet again. The salt is no good, except to throw on the ground for people to walk on. 14. You are the-same-as lights in the world. A town built on a hill can't hide. 15. You don't put a candle under a basket, but you put a candle on a stand so-that the light shines for everyone on the house. 16. You let your life shine in-front-of people that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven. 17. Don't think that I come to postpone the Law and Prophets writings. I come to obey the Holy Writings. 18. I tell you honestly, heaven and earth will not dissolve, and every little part of the Law will remain until everything happens. 19. Anyone ignoring any Commandments and teaching other people to do that will be-named the smallest in the kingdom of heaven. But anyone obeying and teaching the Commandments will be-named the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 20. I say to you, if your righteous ways are not better than the Jewish writers and Law teachers, then you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. [A] SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY INTROIT: The evil people have many troubles, but the people trusting in the Lord have HIS eternal love around them. Happy is the person forgiven of his sins. Happy is the person that always speaks the truth, because the Lord doesn't count his sins. I confess my sins to YOU, and I don't hide my law breakings. I will confess my mistakes to the Lord, and HE forgives all of my sins. Now let all the holy people pray to YOU and find YOU, Lord; because happens that the great oceans cover-over us, then we can never find YOU. God, YOU help protect us from all trouble and save us from destruction. COLLECT: Lord God, YOU hear the prayers of YOUR people. Help us to see and to understand the things we should be doing and give to us YOUR love and power to do those things. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. DEUTERONOMY 30:15-20 15. Today I show you life and happiness, death and sorrow. 16. Because I command you today to love the Lord your God, follow HIS ways, and obey everything God says in HIS Commandments, laws and rules. Then you will live and have many children, and the Lord your God will bless you in the country you will enter. 17. But if your heart becomes hard and you won't listen and you are lead to worship false idols and serve them; 18. I tell you today that you will die and not live a long time in the country across the river named JORDAN. 19. I ask heaven and earth to be WITNESS against you today that I put life and death in-front-of you -- the blessing and the punishment. Choose life so-that you and your children will live; 20. By loving the Lord your God, obeying God, and staying faithful to God. I CORINTHIANS 2:6-13 6. We speak wisdom to people ready to hear it, wisdom not known to our world today and to the dying reigners of the world. 7. Yes, we tell about God's secret wisdom that was hidden and that God planned before the world began for our glory. 8. None of the reigners of the world knew about it. If the reigners knew, then they would not have-crucified the Lord of glory. 9. But the Holy Writing says, "No eye has-seen, no ear has-heard, and no mind has-thought about the things God prepared for those people loving HIM." 10. God showed that to us by HIS Holy Spirit. The Spirit knows everything, also the deep things of God. 11. Only a man's inner soul knows the things a man thinks. The same way only God's Spirit know the things God thinks. 12. Now we didn't receive the spirit of the world, but we received the Spirit of God so-that we will know the good things God gave us. 13. And we tell about that in words not taught by man's wisdom but taught by the Holy Spirit, as we explain the things of the Spirit to those people having the Spirit. GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM, all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HE stays faithful forever. Give glory to the Lord, and enter HIS house bringing a gift. MATTHEW 5:20-37 20. I say to you if your righteous ways are not better than the Jewish Writers and Law teachers, then you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 21. You heard people say a long time ago, "You must not kill." And anyone killing comes under judgment. 22. But I say to you everyone angry with his brother without good reason will come under judgment. If a man says to his brother, "You fool," then he will come under the fire of hell. 23. Now if you bring your gift to the altar, and remember your brother has something against you; 24. Then drop your gift in-front-of the altar and first go and make peace with your brother. Then come and bring your gift. 25. If your enemy brings you to court, then become friends with him quickly and do that before going to court. If you don't become his friend, then maybe he will give you to the judge, and the judge maybe will tell the soldier to put you in jail. 26. And I tell you that you will not go out of jail until you pay everything you owe. 27. You heard the words, "You must not break the marriage law." 28. But I tell you that anyone looking at a woman hungrily finished broke the marriage law in his heart. 29. If your right eye makes you sin, take-out the eye and throw-away the eye. Truly it-is-better for you to lose part of your body, than to have all your body thrown in hell. 30. And if your right hand makes you sin, cut-off your hand and throw-away that hand. Truly it-is-better for you to lose part of your body, than to have all your body thrown into hell. 31. MOSES said, "Anyone divorcing his wife must give her a divorce paper." 32. But I tell you anyone divorcing his wife except she was not faithful with SEX, makes the wife break the marriage law. And a man marrying a divorced woman lives in broken marriage law. 33. Again you heard that long ago people learned, "Don't make false promises and give to the Lord everything you promised to give HIM." 34. But I tell you, don't make false promises, not make a promise by heaven - that is God's home. 35. Or promise by earth - that is God's place to rest HIS feet; or promise by the Holy City - that is the city of the great king. 36. And don't make a false promise by your head, because you can't change the color of your hair to white or black. 37. Only say - Yes! Yes! Or No! No! Anything more than that is sinful. [A] SEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY INTROIT: The Lord is full of mercy and kindness, slow to become angry, and overflowing with love. Praise the Lord, Oh my soul; all inside me, praise HIS holy name. Praise the Lord, Oh my soul, and don't forget all HIS blessings. HE forgives all my sins and heals all my sicknesses; He saves my life from destruction and fills me with love and mercy. HE satisfies all my needs with good things and I become excited same-as a young child. HE doesn't punish us same-as we deserve. Same-as the sky is high above the earth, the same great is HIS love for those people that honor HIM; the same far-away the east from the west, the same far-away HE throws our sins. COLLECT: Lord God, we ask YOU to keep YOUR family, the Church, always faithful to YOU. Let us depend on the hope of YOUR promises and get strength from the power of YOUR love. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen LEVITICUS 19:1-2, 17-18 1. And the Lord said to MOSES, 2. Speak to all the people of ISRAEL, "You must be holy because I, the Lord, your God am holy." 17. Don't hate another person in your heart. Discuss the problem with that person, then you will not be-blamed with a sin. 18. Don't get-revenge against anyone and don't complain against another person, but love your neighbor same-as you love yourself, because I am the Lord. I CORINTHIANS 3:10-11, 16-23 10. In HIS love God gave-me a work to do and same-as a skilled builder I began the foundation, and someone other started the building. Everyone should build carefully. 11. No one can begin another foundation. The only foundation we have is Jesus Christ. 16. You know you are God's temple and the Spirit of God is inside you? 17. If anyone destroys God's temple, then God will destroy that person, because God's temple is a holy place. You are God's temple. 18. Don't fool yourself. If anyone thinks himself wise in the ways of the world, first become a fool, then you will become wise. 19. God thinks wise people in the world are foolish, as the Holy Writing says, "God catches the wise people with their own wise ways." 20. And again, "The Lord knows that the plans of wise people are worthless." 21. So don't feel proud about people. You see - everything is yours. 22. PAUL, APPOLOS, PETER, the world, life or death, now or future things - everything is yours. 23. But you belong-to Christ, and Christ belongs-to God. GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM, all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HE stays faithful forever. Give glory to the Lord, and enter HIS house bringing a gift. MATTHEW 5:38-48 38. You heard people say, "Take-away one eye for the others eye, and take-away one tooth for the other man's tooth." 39. But I tell you, don't fight against an evil person. If someone slaps you on the right cheek, turn-your-head for slapping on the left cheek. 40. If someone wants to go to court to take-away your shirt, give that person your coat, too. 41. If someone forces you to walk one mile, go two miles with him. 42. If someone asks you for something, give it, and if someone wants to borrow from you, don't refuse him. 43. You heard people say, "Love your neighbor, and hate your enemy." 44. But I tell you, love your enemies and bless those people cursing you, do good to those people hating you, and pray for those people hurting you. 45. In this way you will show you are the children of your Father in heaven. HE makes the sunrise for all people, both bad and good people, and HE lets rain come indifferent people do correct or wrong things. 46. If you love people because they first loved you, then what profit do you have? Tax collectors do that, too. 47. If you show kindness only to your friends, that is nothing special. People in the world do that. 48. You be perfect the same-as your Father in heaven is perfect. [A] EIGHTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY INTROIT: Oh my soul, find rest with God; my salvation and my honor depend on God. My soul finds rest only with God; my salvation comes from HIM. HE is my strength and my savior; HE protects me and I will not fear. O people, trust in HIM always; tell God your problems, because HE is YOUR protector. One thing God spoke; two things I heard: that YOU, O God, are strong, and that YOU, O Lord, are loving. Truly YOU will bless each person according to the things that person does. COLLECT: O Lord, in mercy hear our prayers and free us from our sins and defend us against all evil. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 49:13-18 13. Sing, O skies. Be-happy, O earth. Hills begin your song, because the Lord comforts HIS people and shows mercy to HIS suffering people. 14. But God's Church says, "The Lord dropped me alone! The Lord forgot me!" 15. Can a mother forget the baby drinking milk and have no love for the son she birthed? If it happens that a mother forgets, still I will not forget you. 16. See, I wrote your name on MY hands. I am always watching over you. 17. Your children hurry and come. Those people wanting to destroy you now depart. 18. Look-around and see. People are gathering and coming to you. The Lord says, "I live and now these people will come and join the Church same-as decorations hanging on a tree or same-as a new bride joins her husband." I CORINTHIANS 4:1-13 1. Now let people see us and know we are servants of Christ, and let them know we reign God's secret things. 2. And one thing is very important, a good reigner must remain faithful. 3. And indifferent you or any world court judge me, that doesn't bother me. I don't judge myself. 4. Maybe I don't-know anything bad against myself; but ignorance doesn't make me righteous. 5. Only the Lord HIMSELF judges me. Now, don't judge before HIS time. Don't judge until the Lord comes. HE will shine light on all dark secrets, and HE will show the secret wants in people's hearts. And then each one will get his praise from God. 6. Christian friends, APPOLOS and I are examples for you, so-that you can learn to follow the Holy Writings. Then you will not become proud about one man and hate another man. 7. Are you better than other people? Everything you have is a gift to you. Then don't boast about your things, because they all were-given to you. 8. You think you have everything you need. You think you are rich. You think you have become kings without us. I wish you were truly a king, then we can become kings with you. 9. I think God made me and the other Jesus teachers last. We are same-as people condemned to die with all the people watching. We are same-as a show for all the world, and angels, and people to see. 10. We are foolish people for Christ, but you think yourself wise in Christ. We are weak people, but you think yourselves very strong. People give honor to you, but they hate us. 11. Until now we are hungry, thirsty, not enough clothes, people beat-up us, and we have no home. 12. We work hard with our hands to feed ourselves. People curse us, but we say a blessing to them. People persecute us, and we accept it. 13. People say bad things about us, but we say good things about them. Until now people act against us same-as GARBAGE on earth and dirty people in the world. GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM, all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HE stays faithful forever. Give glory to the Lord, and enter HIS house bringing a gift. MATTHEW 6:24-34 24. No one can serve two bosses; because you will hate the one boss and love the other boss, or you will attend to the one boss and ignore the other boss. You can't serve God and earthly things. 25. Now, I tell you; don't worry about your life or about your food or about your drink or about your body and your clothes. Your life is more important than food and your body more important than clothing, Correct? 26. See the birds in the sky. Birds don't sow or harvest, and birds don't save food in BARNS. But your heavenly Father feeds birds. Those birds are not more important than you, Correct? 27. Now? Who among you can grow one foot more taller by worrying? 28. And why do you worry about clothing? Think about the flowers in the field. See they grow good. Flowers don't work. 29. But I tell you that king SOLOMON in all his beautiful clothes didn't clothe himself the same beautiful same-as a flower. 30. Now, if God makes the beautiful grass in the field; and that grass grows today, and tomorrow people throw that grass into the fire; God will much more give to you people a small faith, Correct? 31. Now, don't worry and say, "What will we eat, and what will we drink, and what clothing will we have? 32. Because other nations seek-for all those things. Your heavenly Father knows you need all these things. 33. But first, seek HIS kingdom and HIS righteousness; and HE will give all these other things to you. 34. Now, don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow we will worry about tomorrow. And one day's troubles are enough. [A] THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD INTROIT: Praise the Lord our God and worship in HIS holy Church, because the Lord our God is holy. The Lord reigns, let the nations fear; the Lord sits on HIS throne with angels around HIM, let the earth shake. Great is the Lord in heaven; HE reigns over all the nations. Let the nations praise YOUR great and wonderful name -- HE is holy. The King is mighty, HE loves honesty -- YOU always show fairness; in ISRAEL YOU finished doing the correct and fairness thing. Praise the Lord our God and worship HIM; HE is holy. COLLECT: O God, in that glorious transfiguration of YOUR only Son YOU proved the secret of the faith of our fathers, and with YOUR voice from that cloud YOU showed YOUR acceptance of us through Jesus. In mercy give us that same glory that YOU showed in Jesus, and bring us to that glory in heaven. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. EXODUS 24:12, 15-18 12. And the Lord said to MOSES, "Come-up to ME on the mountain and wait and I will give you two stones that I wrote the Law and Commandments that you can teach the people." 15. MOSES went-up the mountain covered by the cloud. 16. The glory of the Lord stayed on MT. SINAI. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day God called to MOSES from the cloud. 17. The glory of the Lord seemed same-as a hot fire on the mountain to the Jewish people looking-up. 18. MOSES went-up into the cloud on the mountain. And MOSES stayed on the mountain forty days. II PETER 1:16-21 16. We informed you about the coming and power of the Lord Jesus Christ, but we didn't tell clever stories people invented; because we saw with our own eyes HIS glorious strength. 17. Because after Jesus received honor and glory from God the Father, then a voice spoke to HIM from the wonderful glory. The voice said, "This is MY dear Son. In HIM I find much pleasure." 18. We were with HIM on that holy mountain, and we heard this voice coming from heaven. 19. And we have a more clear prophetic word. Attend to this word and you do good. Because that word is same-as a light shining in a dark place until the day begins and the sun shines in your hearts. 20. First, understand that no prophecy in the Holy Writings permits private explanation. 21. Because in past time no prophecy came because a man wanted that prophecy. But the Holy Spirit inspired men, and they spoke God's Words. GRADUAL: Praise the Lord, all you nations; praise HIM, all you people. Because HIS love is great to us, and HE stays faithful forever. Give glory to the Lord, and enter HIS house bringing a gift. MATTHEW 17:1-9 1. And after six days Jesus led PETER and two brothers, JAMES and JOHN, to a high mountain alone. 2. Then Jesus' body changed in-front-of them, and HIS face shone same-as the sun. HIS clothing became white same-as a light. 3. And, look, MOSES and ELIJAH appeared and talked with Jesus. 4. PETER said to Jesus, "Lord, truly good we are here. If YOU want, I will make three tents here; one tent for YOU, and one tent for MOSES, and one tent for ELIJAH." 5. Then a bright cloud came over them, and a voice said, "This is MY dear Son. I find pleasure in HIM. Listen to HIM." 6. And after the three friends of Jesus heard that, they fell-on-their-faces and were very much afraid. 7. And Jesus came and touched them and said, "Stand and don't be-afraid." 8. They looked-up and saw no one except Jesus. 9. And they all came-down from the mountain. And Jesus commanded them, "Tell no one about the thing you saw until the Son of Man rises from the dead." [A] ASH WEDNESDAY INTROIT: Offer to God your sorrow, a sad and sorry heart God will attend. Show mercy to me, O God, agreeing-with YOUR love and kindness, agreeing-with YOUR much mercy, forgive my law breaking. Wash-away my wrongs, and make me clean from my sin. Because I know my law breaking, and my sin is always in-front-of me. Look, you want truth in the heart, and in secret you will teach me wisdom. Cleanse me with YOUR Word and I will become clean. YOU wash me and I will become white same-as snow. Let me hear happiness and excitement; then my broken body can become happy. Hide YOUR face from my sins, and forgive all my wrongs. Begin in me a clean heart, O God, and make a new correct spirit in me. Don't throw-away me from in-front-of you, and don't take-away YOUR Holy Spirit from me. Again give me happiness with YOUR saving work, and give-me an eager soul. COLLECT: Almighty and eternal God, YOU don't hate things YOU made, and YOU forgive sins of sorry people. Now in us make and begin new and sorry hearts. Then we will feel sorrow about our sins and cry about our sinful souls, and then we will receive forgiveness from YOU, our God of mercy. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. JOEL 2:12-19 12. Now the Lord your God says: "Come again to ME with all your heart. Come, not eating, crying, and sorrow." 13. Don't rip your clothing, but feel honest sorrow in your hearts. Come again to the Lord your God, because HE shows kindness and mercy. HIS anger is slow, and HE shows much love, and HE wants to change HIS judgment against evil. 14. Don't-know? Maybe HE will change HIS heart and come again and give a blessing while HE passes-by. And maybe that blessing is a food or drink offering to give the Lord, your God. 15. Blow-the-trumpet in the city JERUSALEM. Prepare a holy day with no eating. Announce the day for holy worship. 16. The people meeting together. Call everyone for worship. Bring the old people and the children, also the young babies. Let the groom leave his room and let the bride leave her room. 17. Let the priests -- those servants of the Lord -- let the priests shout in the temple between the altar and the PORCH. Let them say, "Lord, save YOUR people and don't make your gift a shameful thing, or other nations will mock us. Don't let the nations say: 'Where is their God?'" 18. The Lord was jealous for HIS land, and felt mercy for HIS people. 19. And the Lord answered HIS people: "Now I send corn and wine and oil to you, and you will be-satisfied. And I will never again make a thing of shame in-front-of the other nations. II CORINTHIANS 5:20-6:2 20. In the name of Jesus Christ and for HIM, we beg you, let God change you from enemies to become friends. 21. Christ had no sin, but God made HIM become our sin offering. God did this for us, so that in Christ we can become alright with God. 6:1. We work together-with HIM, and we beg you: Don't waste this wonderful kindness of God. 2. Because God says: "Your prayer came to ME happened I was ready to attend. I helped you in the day of salvation. Attend, now is the hour to get God's kindness. Today is the day to become saved." GRADUAL: Oh come, let us look-at Jesus; HE gave us our faith and HE makes perfect that faith. HE patiently burdened the cross although that cross is ashamed, and HE reigns in heaven our God. MATTHEW 6:1-6, 16-21 1. Jesus taught them saying, "Be-careful! Don't do your good works in-front-of people; don't let people see the things you do. Because then you will lose the gift from your Father in heaven. 2. Happen you give a gift to a poor person, don't boast about that to others. Don't copy hypocrites. They blow-trumpets in the churches and on the streets so that people will praise them. Remember this! They already received their gift. 3. NO, happen you help a poor person, don't tell your left hand the things your right hand does. Don't tell your best friend about it, but do good things secretly. 4. And your Father sees the things you do secretly and HE will bless you. 5. Now about prayer, happen you pray, don't do same-as hypocrites. They enjoy standing and praying in the churches and on the streets so that everyone will see them. Remember this! They already received their gift. 6. NO, happen you pray, go to your room alone and close the door, and pray to your Father secretly, and your Father sees the things you do secretly and HE will bless you. 16. Happen you give-up eating, don't copy the hypocrites with their sad faces. They walk around with a hungry face so that everyone will see their giving-up eating. Remember this! They already received their gift. 17. Happen you give-up food, wash-your-face and comb-your-hair. 18. Then others can't know that you are giving-up eating. But your Father will know. YES, your Father sees secret things and HE will bless you. 19. Don't save-money riches on earth, because that can be-destroyed by worms or fire, or robbers can steal that. 20. Instead save-money things in heaven, because no worms or fire can destroy in heaven, and no robbers can steal that. 21. Because the things you love most, that you will attend-to. [A] FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT INTROIT: Anyone praying to ME, I will answer you; I will stay with you during trouble, save you and honor you. I will give-you long life and show you MY salvation. If you live everyday with the Lord, our protector and Most High God, then HE will not let any hurt happen to you and no trouble in your house. Because God commands the angels to stay with you and protect you always. The angels will lift-you-up that you don't hurt yourself. You will walk among lions and snakes and walk on them. The Lord says: Because you love ME, I will save you. I will protect you because you know MY name. You will pray to ME and I will answer you. I will stay with you during trouble, save you and honor you. COLLECT: O almighty and eternal God, we ask YOU to lead, make holy, and reign-over our hearts and bodies that we will obey all YOUR laws; and watch-over and protect us in body and soul. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. GENESIS 2:7-9, 15-17, 3:1-7 7. Then from the earth the Lord God shaped a person. God breathed the spirit of life into him. The man became alive. 8. The Lord God planted a place full of trees toward the East named EDEN. There God put the man HE made. 9. From the earth the Lord God made every various tree grow, beautiful and good for food. The tree of life also grew in the middle of the GARDEN and the tree for knowing good and evil. 15. And the Lord God put the man into the GARDEN named EDEN (that means pleasant) for caretaker. 16. And the Lord God ordered the man, "You are free to eat from every tree in the GARDEN except not the tree for knowing good and evil. 17. You must not eat from that tree or that day you will truly die." 3:1. Notice! The snake was more sneaky than other things the Lord God made to live in the field. Satan hid in the snake and said to the woman, "True God said, 'You will eat from every tree in the GARDEN?'" 2. And the woman said to the snake, "We can eat from the trees in the GARDEN except not from the tree in the middle of the GARDEN. 3. God said, 'You must not eat that; don't touch that, or you will die.'" 4. But the snake said to the woman, "Not true you will die. 5. Because God knows happen you eat, then your eyes will open and you will become the same-as God; you will know good and evil." 6. So the woman happened to see the tree was good for food and beautiful, she wanted the tree to make her wise; she took some food and ate; then she gave some also to her husband and he ate. 7. Then the eyes of both opened. They knew they were-naked. They sewed FIG leaves together to make clothes. ROMANS 5:12, 17-19 12. One man, ADAM, brought sin into the world, and sin brought death. 17. Death reigns all people because one man sinned. But God gives much mercy and a free gift of a holy life. And now we reign in life through One Man, Jesus Christ. 18. Now, one man sinned and all people get condemned, the same-as One Man did a holy work and all people get forgiveness and life. 19. One man refused to obey God, and all people became sinners, the same-as One Man obeyed, and many people become holy. GRADUAL: Oh come, let us look-at Jesus; HE gave us our faith and HE makes perfect that faith. HE patiently burdened the cross although that cross is ashamed, and HE reigns in heaven our God. MATTHEW 4:1-11 1. Then the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the dry country to let the Devil tempt HIM. 2. Jesus didn't eat for 40 days and 40 nights. After that Jesus was-hungry. 3. Then the Devil came and said to Jesus, "If YOU are the Son of God, order these stones to become bread." 4. But Jesus answered, "The Holy Writings say, 'People must not live with food only but live with every word from the mouth of God.'" 5. Then the Devil brought Jesus into the Holy City and put Jesus high on the temple roof. 6. And the Devil said to Jesus, If YOU are the Son of God, then jump-down, because the Holy Writings say, 'HE will order angels to watch YOU. And angels will support YOU on their hands, and you will not crush your foot against a stone.'" 7. Jesus answered, "Again the Holy Writings say, 'You will not tempt the Lord, your God.'" 8. Then the Devil brought Jesus to a very high mountain and showed HIM all the nations of the world and their glory. 9. And the Devil said to Jesus, "I will give these things if YOU kneel and worship me." 10. But Jesus answered, "Go-away, Satan, because the Holy Writings say, 'You must worship the Lord, your God, and you must serve only HIM.'" 11. Then the Devil went-away and angels came and served Jesus. [A] SECOND SUNDAY IN LENT INTROIT: Remember, O Lord, YOUR great mercy and love, because YOUR mercy and love are eternal. You people honoring the Lord, now trust in HIM; The Lord helps and protects you. Lord, remember us and bless us. HE will bless the house of ISRAEL; HE will bless the house of AARON; HE will bless the people honoring HIM both children and adults. We must praise the Lord now and always. Praise the Lord. COLLECT: O God, YOU always show mercy, now show YOUR mercy to all people that turned-away from YOUR Word, and turn-them-back again with sorry hearts and a strong faith to believe YOUR true Word. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. GENESIS 12:1-8 1. In the country named HARAN the Lord said to a man named ABRAM, "Go-out from your country. Go-away from your family and your father's house. Go to a country I will show you. 2. And I will make you become a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous. You will spread good to other people. 3. I will bless those people making you rich and happy. I will punish those people hurting you. Through you will all families on earth get a blessing." 4. Now ABRAM went same-as the Lord ordered. His nephew named LOT went with him. ABRAM was 75 years old at the time he moved from HARAN. 5. He brought SARA his wife and LOT his nephew and all the things they had and the servants had in HARAN. They began to go to the country named CANAAN. 6. They arrived in CANAAN and ABRAM walked through the country to the place named SHECUM. He slept near the OAK tree at MOREH. The people living in that country were-named CANAANITES. 7. The Lord appeared to ABRAM and said, "I will give this country to your future family." Then ABRAM built an altar there to remember the Lord's visit. 8. Then he moved his tent to the mountain East of BETHEL. His tent was between BETHEL on the West and AI on the East. In that place he built an altar to the Lord and prayed to HIM. ROMANS 4:1-5, 13-17 1. What shall we say about ABRAHAM, the father of Jewish people? 2. If ABRAHAM is named 'holy' because he did good works, then he has a reason for boasting. But he can't boast in-front-of God. 3. Why? What does the Holy Writings say? "God named ABRAHAM 'holy' because ABRAHAM believed God." 4. If you work, then the boss pays you. The money you get is not a gift but a debt. The boss must pay you because you earned it. 5. But if you have faith, not works, and you trust God because God makes bad people holy, then God will make you holy because you believed. 13. God made a promise to ABRAHAM and his children, "The world belongs to them." God didn't make that promise because ABRAHAM obeyed the Law. No! God made that promise because ABRAHAM believed. God decided ABRAHAM'S faith made him holy. 14. If God gives blessings only to people obeying the Law, then faith is worthless and God's promise is false. 15. Why? Because the Law shows us sin, and sin makes God angry. But if we have no Law, then it is impossible to break the Law. 16. Now the promise comes by faith. Then God's promise is HIS free gift to all of ABRAHAM'S children, not only to people obeying the Law; God shows mercy to all people believing same-as ABRAHAM believed. 17. Because ABRAHAM is our father, same-as the Holy Writings say, "I will make you the father of many nations." God promised, and ABRAHAM believed. God makes dead people alive again, and HE makes new things from nothing. GRADUAL: Oh come, let us look-at Jesus; HE gave us our faith and HE makes perfect that faith. HE patiently burdened the cross although that cross is ashamed, and HE reigns in heaven our God. JOHN 4:5-26 5. Jesus came to a city named SYCHAR in the country named SAMARIA, near the place JACOB gave some land to his son JOSEPH. 6. That was also the place named JACOB'S WELL. Jesus became tired from HIS travel and sat-down near the WELL. The time was about noon. 7. Jesus' friends all went to the city to buy food. 8. Then a woman from SAMARIA came to the WELL to pull-up some water. Jesus said to her, "Please, give-ME a drink of water." 9. The woman answered, "YOU are a Jew nd I am a SAMARITAN. How can you ask me for a drink?" (Jews have strong feelings against SAMARITANS and refused to use the same cups) 10. Jesus answered, "If you only knew the thing God gives, and if you knew ME, then you would ask ME for a drink, and I would give you the living water." 11. The woman said, "This WELL is deep, and YOU have no bucket. Where do YOU get the living water? 12. Our father JACOB gave us this WELL, and he and his sons and all of his animals drank from this WELL. Do YOU think YOU are better than JACOB?" 13. Jesus answered, "Every person drinking this water will become thirsty again. 14. But every person drinking the water I give will never become thirsty again. The water I give will become same-as a water-spring inside him for eternal life." 15. The woman said, "Please! Give-me that water! Then I will never become thirsty again, and I will never need to come here to the WELL to get water." 16. Jesus said, "Go, invite your husband here." 17. The woman answered, "I have no husband." Jesus said, "Correct! You say you have no husband. 18. But you have five husbands! And the man living with you now is not your husband. You spoke the truth." 19. The woman said, "I understand YOU now. YOU are a prophet. 20. Our fathers worshipped God on this mountain, but you Jews say JERUSALEM is the correct place for worshipping God." 21. Jesus answered, "Woman, believe ME. The time will happen, people will worship God the Father not on this mountain and not in JERUSALEM. 22. You SAMARITAN people don't-know the God you worship, because God gives salvation through the Jewish people. 23. But the time will happen, and is already here now, true believers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. Because God seeks those worshippers. 24. God is a spirit. And people wanting to worship HIM must worship in spirit and in truth." 25. The woman said, "I know the Savior, named Christ, will come. Happen HE appears, then HE will explain everything to us." 26. Jesus answered, "ME, the Man talking with you, I am the Christ." [A] THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT INTROIT: My eyes always watch the Lord, because HE will save my feet from stumbling. I shout to the Lord; I pray to the Lord for mercy. I shout to YOU, O Lord, and I say, "YOU protect me and bless me." Listen to my prayer because I need YOUR help; save me from my enemies because they are strong. Free me from my sins that I can praise YOUR name. Then I will stand among holy people because YOU are good to me. COLLECT: Almighty God, YOU know that we are weak people, now YOU protect us both inside and outside from all bodily hurts and bad thoughts that hurt our soul. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 42:14-21 14. The Lord says, "I truly stayed silent a very long time. I stayed quiet and reigned myself. Now I will shout same-as a woman giving-birth. I will breathe-violently. 15. I will destroy the mountains and hills and all their green growth will wither. I will make rivers become small pools of water and dry-up. 16. I will make blind people walk on a road they don't-know and lead them on paths they don't-know. I will make dark become light in-front-of them and make steep places level. These are things I will work until finished. 17. Then those people trusting in carved idols and name metal idols their g-o-d-s will not go forward. They will feel much shame. Listen, you deaf people. You blind people, open your eyes and see. 18. Who is blind? Only MY servant. Who is deaf? Only MY announcer I sent. 19. You see many things, but you don't truly notice. 20. Your ears are open, but you hear nothing. 21. Because HE wants correct things, the Lord wants HIS teachings wonderful and glorious. EPHESIANS 5:8-14 8. Remember! In the past your hearts were full of darkness. But now you are full of light from the Lord. Now, let your lives show HIS light. 9. HIS light helps you have good and correct and honest actions. 10. Try to learn what things make the Lord happy. 11. Don't join in the actions of bad people, but show they are wrong. 12. It is shameful to talk about the things those people do in secret. 13. If those things are brought to God's light, then we can understand and maybe those people will understand. 14. This is the meaning of the words: "Sleeper, wake-up! Rise from the dead! And Christ will give you light!" GRADUAL: Oh come, let us look-at Jesus; HE gave us our faith and HE makes perfect that faith. HE patiently burdened the cross although that cross is ashamed, and HE reigns in heaven our God. JOHN 9:13-17, 34-39 13. The man was blind in the past, but now could see. His friends brought him to show the Jewish Law Teachers. 14. Jesus healed the blind man on the holy worship day. 15. The Law Teachers asked the man, "In the past you were blind, correct? But now you can see, How?" The man answered, "Jesus put a little-bit of MUD on my eyes. Then I washed my face, and now I can see." 16. Some of the Law Teachers said, "Jesus can't be from God because HE doesn't obey our church laws. HE must not work or heal people on the worship day." 17. Now, the Law Teachers asked the man, "Jesus made you see, correct? Tell us about HIM." The man answered, "HE is a prophet." 34. The Law Teachers said, "You were-born with sin, and you want to teach us?" Then they kicked the man out of the church. 35. Jesus heard about that and Jesus found the man and said, "DO you believe in the Son of God?" 36. The man answered, "Please tell me, who is the Son of God because I want to believe." 37. Jesus said, " You have-already seen HIM, because I am the Son of God." 38. The man said, "Lord, I believe!" Then the man knelt and worshipped Jesus. 39. Jesus said, "I came to this world to judge. Then blind people will see, and people thinking they can see will become blind." [A] FOURTH SUNDAY IN LENT INTROIT: Be excited and happy with the city JERUSALEM all you people; be excited you people that grieve. Give praise to the Lord because HE heard my asking for mercy. Wait for the Lord; stay strong, trust, and wait for HIM. One thing I ask from the Lord; that I will live all my days in HIS house and watch HIS beautiful face. The Lord protects and helps me; my heart trusts HIM. The Lord gives strength to HIS people and protects HIS chosen people. Save YOUR people and bless them; become their shepherd and take-care-of them forever. COLLECT: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, YOU show mercy new every morning. We don't earn YOUR good love, but still YOU give us all we need for our body and soul. Give us YOUR Holy Spirit that we will accept YOUR good love and give thanks for all YOUR blessings and obediently serve YOU. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. HOSEA 5:15-6:2 15. I will go again to MY place until the people confess their guilt and seek MY face. In their trouble they will eagerly search-for ME. 6:1. They will say, "Come, let us go again to the Lord. HE got hurt for us, so-that HE will heal us. HE gave pain to us, but HE will bandage us. 2. After two days HE will give us life. On the third day HE will raise us to live with HIM." ROMANS 8:1-10 1. Now those people trusting in Christ Jesus can't be-condemned. 2. If the Holy Spirit reigns in your heart, then you have eternal life because Christ Jesus freed you from sin reigning in your heart and sin only gives eternal death in HELL. 3. We couldn't be-saved by the Law because of our weak sinful hearts, but God saved us by sending HIS Son in the body of a man instead-of us. 4. God condemns our sinful hearts, so-that if we have the Holy Spirit reigning in our hearts, then we will be-righteous same-as the Law demands. 5. Those people having their sinful hearts reigning in them are always thinking about sinful things, but those people having the Holy Spirit reigning in their hearts will always be-thinking about holy things. 6. The thoughts of the sinful heart lead us to eternal death, but the thoughts of the Holy Spirit leads us to eternal life and peace. 7. This happens because the sinful heart hates God. The sinful heart refuses to obey God's Laws and truly can't obey the Laws. 8. People with sinful hearts can't please God. 9. But you don't have the sinful heart reigning, but the Holy Spirit reigning in you. Anyone not having the Holy Spirit reigning in his heart, that person doesn't belong to Christ. 10. And if you belong to Christ, indifferent your bodies are dead because you sin, your soul is alive because you are now righteous. GRADUAL: Oh come, let us look-at Jesus; HE gave us our faith and HE makes perfect that faith. HE patiently burdened the cross although that cross is ashamed, and HE reigns in heaven our God. MATTHEW 20:17-28 17. Jesus went to the Holy City and brought HIS twelve friends, and Jesus said to them, 18. "Look, we are going to the Holy City, and the Son of Man will be-betrayed into the hands of the reigning priests and Law Teachers. 19. They will condemn ME to death and give ME to the unbelievers. I will be-mocked, beaten, and crucified, but on the third day I will arise." 20. Then the mother of JAMES and JOHN came to Jesus with her two sons and knelt in-front-of Jesus because she wanted to ask Jesus for something. 21. Jesus said, "What do you want?" The mother said, "Promise me that my two sons will sit at YOUR right side and left side in heaven." 22. Jesus answered, "You don't-know the thing you ask. Can you two drink the cup that I must drink?" (Jesus meant - Can you accept to suffer the same-as I will suffer on the cross?) The two sons said, "Yes, we can." 23. Jesus said, "You will drink from that cup, but to sit at MY right side or MY left side is something I can give only to those MY Father prepared for it." 24. The other friends heard about that and they became angry with JAMES and JOHN. 25. Jesus spoke to HIS twelve friends, "You know that princes reign over a nation, and the great intelligent men become their leaders. 26. But among you, it is different. Anyone wanting to become great among you, that person must become the servant. 27. And anyone wanting to be the chief reigner among you, that person must become a slave. 28. The same way the Son of Man didn't come here to have people serve HIM, but HE came same-as a servant and gives HIS life same-as a payment for all people. [A] FIFTH SUNDAY IN LENT INTROIT: O God, judge me and defend me against the unbelieving nations. Save me from sinful and lying people. I love the Lord, because HE heard my prayers; HE heard my shouts for mercy. I will pray to the Lord all my life, because HE attends to me. Death surrounds me, and the grave grieves me; I am filled with trouble and sadness. Then I prayed to the Lord, "O Lord, save me!" Because YOU, Lord, saved my soul from death, YOU wiped-away my tears, and YOU protected my feet from stumbling. COLLECT: Almighty and eternal God, help us remember and give thanks to YOU for Jesus' suffering on the cross that we are forgiven of our sins, and that YOU took-away the devil's power that we can be saved from eternal death. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. EZEKIEL 37:1-3, 11-14 1. The Lord put HIS hand on me. By HIS Spirit the Lord carried me and put-me-down in the middle of a valley filled with bones. 2. HE made me walk around them. There were many bones in that valley. The bones were very dry. 3. The Lord spoke: "Son of man, can these bones become alive?" And I answered, "Lord God, YOU know." 11. Then HE said to me: "Son of man, these bones are all the people of ISRAEL. They are saying, 'Our bones are dry. We've lost all hope. We are separated from God.' 12. So preach and tell them, 'The Lord God says this: "I will open your graves and raise you up, MY people. I will bring you into the land of ISRAEL. 13. Yes, I will open your graves and raise you up and you know that I am the Lord. 14. Then I will put MY Spirit in you and you will live. I will put you in your own land. Then you will know that I am the Lord. I promised that and I will do it." says the Lord.'" ROMANS 8:11-19 11. Now if the Holy Spirit lives in you, that same Holy Spirit raised Jesus from death, that Holy Spirit will also make your dying bodies become alive because HE lives in you. 12. Therefore, Christian friends, we don't owe our sinful bodies anything. 13. If you follow the hungers of your sinful body, you will die. But if the Holy Spirit helps you to stop these sinful hungers, you will live. 14. All those people following the Holy Spirit are named the children of God. 15. Because the Holy Spirit doesn't make you a slave and make you become afraid. No! Instead the Holy Spirit makes you God's children, and with the Holy Spirit's help we pray, "Father, my Father." 16. The Holy Spirit joins with our souls to announce that we are God's children. 17. Because we are HIS children, we will have the blessings that God gives to HIS people, and we will also have the blessing that God gave to Christ. If we join with Christ's suffering, we will also join with Christ's glory in heaven. 18. I think that those sufferings we have now here can't be-compared with the great glory that we will see in heaven. 19. All the things God made are eagerly waiting for God to show HIS children. GRADUAL: Oh come, let us look-at Jesus; HE gave us our faith and HE makes perfect that faith. HE patiently burdened the cross although that cross is ashamed, and HE reigns in heaven our God. JOHN 11:47-53 47. Then the reigning priests and Law teachers called a meeting of the officers. "What must we do? This man, Jesus, is doing many mighty works. 48. If we let Jesus continue this way, everyone will believe in HIM, and then the Romans will come and destroy the temple and force us to become slaves." 49. But one man, named CAIAPHAS, the Chief Priest that year, said, "You don't-know anything. 50. You must consider. It-is-better that one man dies instead-of having the whole Jewish nation die. Correct?" 51. Truly CAIAPHAS didn't think about this himself, but because he was the Chief Priest that year, he was-speaking a prophecy that Jesus must die instead-of the Jewish nation dying. 52. And not for the Jewish nation, but also for all of God's children in the world." 53. From that day onward the Jewish leaders made plans to kill Jesus. [A] PALM SUNDAY INTROIT: Into YOUR hands I give my spirit; YOU saved me, O Lord God of truth. In YOU, O Lord, I trust; let me never become ashamed; save me with YOUR correct doings. Because YOU are my strong support and my defense, now guide me and reign over me because of YOUR name. Into YOUR hands I give my spirit; save me, O Lord God of truth. I hate people honoring foolish idols, but I trust in YOU, Lord. My time remains in YOUR hand; save me from the hands of my enemies and from people hurting me. Let YOUR face smile on YOUR servant; save me because-of YOUR great love. COLLECT: Almighty and eternal God the Father, YOU sent YOUR Son same-as a man to suffer death on the cross that all people will follow HIS example of humility, we ask YOU to help us follow Jesus' example of patience, then we can join in HIS arising. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ISAIAH 50:4-9 4. The Lord made me able to teach. Now I know how to help the discouraged person with a word of encouragement. Every morning God awakes me to hear. 5. HE opens my ear to attend same-as a learner. O haven't refused or turned-away. 6. I gave MY back to beatings and MY cheeks to men pulling out MY whiskers. I didn't turn MY face from shame or from men SPITTING on ME. 7. The Lord God helps ME. That's the reason shame can't defeat ME. I attend straight ahead and I know I shall succeed. 8. God is with ME; HE makes ME correct. Will anyone quarrel with ME? Let us stand together in-front-of the judge. Who will challenge MY rights? Let him stand in-front-of ME. 9. The Lord God will help ME. Who then can judge ME for punishment? PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11 5. Now think in your minds same-as Christ Jesus. 6. Now Jesus is the person of God HIMSELF and equal with God; but Jesus didn't rest with that honor. 7. HE hid HIS glory, and Jesus came in the body of a servant; and HE was-born same-as a true man. 8. Through obedience Christ humbled HIMSELF until death, and that death on the cross. 9. Now, God gave Jesus much honor and put HIS name over all other names. 10. And in-front-of Jesus' name every one must bow-down, all in heaven and on earth and under the earth. 11. And every mouth will confess that Jesus is Lord. This honors God the Father. GRADUAL: Christ entered the Most Holy Place once for all by HIS OWN blood, freeing us forever. Christ brings a new agreement from God to HIS people that they can have the things God promised. God gives salvation to HIS people; HE established HIS agreement forever. MATTHEW 27:11-54 11. Jesus stood in-front-of PONTIUS PILATE. The governor asked, "Are YOU the king of the Jews?" Jesus answered, "Yes." 12. Jesus didn't say anything while the reigning priests and older Jewish leaders blamed HIM. 13. The governor said to Jesus, "YOU hear these people blaming YOU. Why not answer them?" 14. Jesus answered nothing, and that surprised the governor. 15. Every year at PASSOVER time the governor always freed one man from jail. 16. Now a famous man was in jail named BARABBAS. 17. All the people stood in-front-of the governor's house, and PILATE asked, "Which man do you want me to free, BARABBAS or Jesus the Christ?" 18. The governor knew the Jews were jealous of Jesus. 19. While sitting in the judgement place the governor received a letter from his wife. "Don't do anything with that man Jesus. He is not guilty. I had a bad dream about HIM last night." 20. But the reigning priests and older Jewish leaders told the people to ask for Barabbas freed and Jesus killed. 21. PILATE said, "I have Barabbas and Jesus. Which man shall I free for you?" The people answered, "Barabbas!" 22. The governor asked, "What will I do with Jesus, the Christ?" All the people shouted, "Kill HIM!" 23. The governor asked, "Why do you want me to kill HIM? What wrong did HE do?" But all the people shouted more loudly, "Kill HIM!" 24. PILATE saw the people becoming more angry and that they won't change their mind. So he washed his hands in water in-front-of the people and said, "I am not guilty for this man's death. You are the guilty people." 25. All the people answered, "We are responsible for HIS death." 26. Then the governor freed Barabbas and told the soldiers to whip Jesus. Then the soldiers led Jesus to be-killed on the cross. 27. Then the soldiers brought Jesus into the governor's house and all the soldiers gathered around Jesus. 28. The soldiers took-off Jesus' clothes and put a red robe on HIM. 29. Then the soldiers made a crown from thorns and put that on Jesus' head, and they put a stick in HIS right hand. Then they bowed-down and teased HIM saying, "Hello, king of the Jews!" 30. The soldiers spit on Jesus, and they took the stick and hit HIM on the head. 31. Happened the teasing finished, the soldiers took-off the red robe and put-on HIS own clothing and led Jesus to be-killed on the cross. 32. While walking out-of the city, the soldiers forced another man named SIMON from CYRENE to carry the cross for Jesus. 33. They arrived at the place named GOLGOTHA (That means PLACE OF THE SKULL). 34. The soldiers gave Jesus wine to drink mixed with some medicine, but Jesus tasted the wine and refused to drink that. 35. The soldiers nailed Jesus to the cross, and then they gambled to share Jesus' clothes. 36. The soldiers sat and watched Jesus. 37. The soldiers nailed a sign above Jesus' head with his wrongs written on it. The sign said: "This is Jesus, the king of the Jews." 38. Two robbers were-nailed to crosses, one cross on the right and one cross on the left. 39. People walked near the cross and said bad things to Jesus. 40. The people laughed and said, "YOU said YOU will destroy the temple and build that again in three days. Now save YOURSELF! Come-down here if YOU truly are the Son of God!" 41. The reigning priests, the Law teachers, and the older Jewish leaders stood near the cross and also teased Jesus. 42. They said, "HE saved other people, but HE can't save HIMSELF! People name HIM the king of ISRAEL. If HE is king, then HE should save HIMSELF and we will believe in HIM. 43. HE trusted God. Let God save HIM now, if God truly wants HIM. HE said HE was the Son of God." 44. And also the robbers on the crosses said bad things to Jesus. 45. At noon all-over became dark and that stayed for three hours. 46. About three o'clock Jesus shouted loudly, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" That means, "MY God, MY God, why do you leave me alone?" 47. Some people standing near heard that and said, "HE is calling to ELIJAH." 48. Quickly one man ran, got a SPONGE, filled that with vinegar, put that on a stick, and held it for Jesus to drink. 49. But other people said, "Don't bother Jesus. We want to see if ELIJAH will come to save HIM." 50. Again Jesus shouted loudly and HE died. 51. Happened Jesus died, then the curtain in the temple tore in two-pieces from top to bottom. The earth shook and rocks broke. 52. The graves opened and many of God's people in the graves became alive. 53. Happened Jesus arose from the dead, then those people from the graves went into the holy city and many people saw them. 54. The soldiers guarding Jesus' grave saw the earth shake and everything that happened, and they became afraid and said, "HE truly was the Son of God!" [A] HOLY THURSDAY INTROIT: I will take the cup of salvation and pray in the name of the Lord. What will I give to the Lord for all HIS gifts to me? I will take the cup of salvation and pray in the name of the Lord. Important in the eyes of the Lord is the death of HIS dear people. O Lord, I am truly YOUR servant; the son of YOUR servant girl; YOU freed me from my slavery. I will give a thank-offering to YOU and pray in the name of the Lord. COLLECT: Lord Jesus, YOU asked us to remember YOUR suffering and death every time we worship with this Lord's Supper. Let this gift of body and blood work in our hearts and lives so that we will announce the things YOU finished done. We ask this knowing YOU live and reign with the Father and the Spirit eternally one God. Amen. EXODUS 12:1-14 1. The Lord spoke to MOSES and AAron in EGYPT. 2. "This month will be the beginning of the year for you. 3. Tell all the people of ISRAEL that on the tenth day of this month each family will choose one sheep from among their animals; 4. If one family is small and can't eat the whole sheep, then let two families share one sheep together. See how-many people together will eat that animal. 5. The animal should-be a perfect one year old male sheep or a goat. 6. Hold the animal until the fourteenth day, and then every family in ISRAEL will kill the animal that night. 7. Take some of the blood from the animal and paint it on the two door-posts and above the door of the house. 8. That night cook the meat on a fire and eat it with bread made without YEAST and eat bitter HERBS. 9. Don't eat red meat or meat cooked in water. The meat must be cooked on the fire, the whole animal...head, legs and inside parts. 10. Don't leave any meat in the morning, but burn-up any meat that was-not eaten. 11. Eat quickly, have your belts tied, your shoes on your feet, and your walking stick in your hand. This day is the Lord's PASSOVER DAY. 12. That night I will come through EGYPT and kill every first born man and animal. and I the Lord will punish judge all the gods of EGYPT. 13. The blood on the doors of your houses will-be a sign. Happen I see the blood, I will pass that house and no trouble will happen in your house while I come to kill in EGYPT. 14. Remember that day, and every year worship the Lord. Let your children in the future remember that day forever." I CORINTHIANS 11:23-26 23. I received my teaching from the Lord, and I gave you that same teaching. On the same night Jesus got betrayed, HE took bread. 24. And then HE gave thanks, and HE broke the bread and said, "This is MY body I give for you. Eat this in remembering ME." 25. The eating finished, then Jesus raised-the-cup and said, "This cup is the new promise in MY blood. Drink this again and again in remembering ME." 26. Because you announce the Lord's death until HE comes, everytime you eat this bread and drink this cup. GRADUAL: Christ entered the Most Holy Place once for all by HIS OWN blood, freeing us forever. Christ brings a new agreement from God to HIS people that they can have the things God promised. God gives salvation to HIS people; HE established HIS agreement forever. JOHN 13:1-17,34 1. Before the PASSOVER holy day began, Jesus knew HIS time arrived. HE must leave this world and go again to the Father. And because Jesus loved HIS people in this world, HE loved HIS people to the end. 2. Now during the evening meal, the devil gave JUDAS ISCARIOT the idea...betray Jesus. Now JUDAS was SIMON'S son. 3. Jesus knew the Father gave all things into HIS hands, and Jesus knew HE came from God and now goes to God. 4. HE stood during the evening meal and took-off HIS robe, took a TOWEL and tied-that-around-HIS-waist. 5. Then Jesus poured water into a bowl and began washing the feet of HIS friends. And Jesus dried their feet with that TOWEL. 6. Then Jesus came to SIMON PETER, and PETER said, "Lord, YOU want to wash my feet?" 7. Jesus answered, "Now you don't understand, but later you will understand." 8. PETER said, "YOU will never wash my feet." Jesus answered, "Except I wash you, then you will not share in MY work." 9. PETER said, "Not only my feet, but wash my hands and my face." 10. Jesus said to him, "Everyone with a bath is all clean, except he must wash his feet. And you are all clean, but not all of you." 11. Jesus knew the betrayer. Now Jesus said, "You are not all clean." 12. Jesus washed their feet, put-on HIS robe, and sat-down. Then HE said to them, "Do you understand this thing I did to you? 13. You name ME, 'Teacher' and 'Lord'; and you are correct, because I am your Teacher and Lord. 14. Now if I washed your feet, and I am your Teacher and Lord, then you also wash the feet of one-another. 15. I gave you this example, and you do the-same-as I have-done. 16. Honestly, I tell you that the servant should not feel more important than the MASTER. And if you are sent by someone, you should not feel more important than the person sending you. 17. If you understand this, and you do that, then you will be-happy. 34. I give you a new Commandment: Love one-another. You must love one-another same-as I loved you. [A] GOOD FRIDAY INTROIT: O Lord, don't stay far-away; O my strength, hurry and help me. My God, my God, why YOU forget me? Why are-YOU not helping me and not listening to my prayers? In YOU our fathers trusted; they trusted and YOU saved them. But I am same-as a worm and not a man; people are-ashamed of me and hate me. But YOU led me since my birth; YOU taught me to trust since my mother fed me from her breast. YOU took-care of me from the day of my birth until now; YOU are my God since my birth. Don't stay far-away, because trouble is near, and none other can help. COLLECT: Almighty God, in mercy look-down upon YOUR family; YOUR Son, Jesus, accepted betrayal and let HIMSELF get-arrested and suffered death on the cross for us. Jesus now lives and reigns with YOU Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. ISAIAH 52:13 - 53:12 13. See! MY Servant will succeed. HE will arise, be-praised, and given high honor. 14. Many people were-surprised seeing HIM, because HIS face was more ugly than any other man, HIS body more ugly than any man. 15. HE will cleanse many nations. Kings will be-open-mouthed in-front-of HIM, because they will see things they never before saw, and they will hear things they never before thought about. 53:1. Lord, who believes the things we hear? And who sees the arm of the Lord? 2. We announced in-front-of HIM that HE is same-as a young child and a ROOT in dry ground. HIS face is nothing, and HE shows no glory. Now we didn't look-at HIM, and HIS face had no beauty. 3. And HIS face was without honor in-front-of all people. HE was a man with STRIPES of punishment, and HE knew sadness. Because no one saw HIS face, people hated HIM and gave HIM no praise. 4. This man accepted our sins and our sadness. And we thought HE HIMSELF was in trouble and punishment and suffering. 5. Our law breaking gave HIM much suffering, and our sins made HIM suffer pain. The punishment for our peace was on HIM, and with HIS STRIPES of punishment we get healed. 6. All we finished strayed same-as sheep. Each person strayed in his-own way. And the Lord put our sin on HIM. 7. And in HIS bad suffering HE didn't shout. Same-as people lead a sheep to their death offering, and same-as a lamb is silent in-front-of the SHEARER; also HE didn't shout. 8. They took-away HIS judgment with shame. And who among HIS people announce that they take HIM from the world of living people? HE went to HIS death for the sins of my people. 9. People gave HIM a grave with sinners and a grave with a rich man in HIS death. No-matter HE didn't break laws, and no lies HE spoke. 10. But the Lord wanted to punish HIM with STRIPES. You gave HIM to take-away sin. HIS soul will see HIS children, and HE will make HIS life long. And the Lord wants to take-away some suffering from HIS soul. 11. Show HIM light and lead HIM with understanding. My righteous Servant will decide many people righteous, because HE will burden their sins. 12. Now I will give HIM many people for a gift, and HE will share the riches with the strong people. Because HE poured-out HIS soul to death, people named HIM a law breaker. And HE burdened the sins of many people and prayed for sinners. HEBREWS 4:14-16; 5:7-9 14. Because we have a great Chief Priest in heaven, Jesus, God's Son, let us hold to our faith. 15. We have a Chief Priest that can sympathize with our weaknesses. HE got tempted in every way the-same-as us, but HE didn't sin. 16. Let us boldly go to God's throne of love to get mercy and find love to help us happen we need it. 5:7. During HIS life here on earth Jesus prayed and begged with much crying to God the Savior from death. Because HE honored God, then God heard HIS prayer. 8. No-matter Jesus is the Son, HE learned from HIS suffering about obedience. 9. Because HE was perfect, Jesus became the giver of eternal salvation to all obeying HIM. GRADUAL: Christ entered the Most Holy Place once for all by HIS OWN blood, freeing us forever. Christ brings a new agreement from God to HIS people that they can have the things God promised. God gives salvation to HIS people; HE established HIS agreement forever. JOHN 19:17-30 17. Jesus carried HIS cross to the place named SKULL; the Jews named that place GOLGOTHA. 18. Jesus got crucified with two other men, Jesus in the middle. 19. PILATE put the wooden-sign on the cross - JESUS FROM NAZARETH, KING OF THE JEWS. 20. Many Jews read the words because that place was near the city, and the words were-written in Jewish, Latin and Greek. 21. The chief priests told PILATE to change the words. Not "KING OF THE JEWS" but "HE SAID I AM KING OF THE JEWS." 22. Pilate said, "I wrote that finished!" 23. The soldiers crucifying Jesus divided HIS clothes, some for each soldier, except Jesus' coat; that was-sewn-from-top-to-bottom all one coat. 24. The soldiers said, "Let's not rip the coat but throw-dice to see the winner." The Bible wrote about this, "They divided MY clothes and for MY coat threw-dice." The soldiers did that. 25. Now Jesus' mother and HIS aunt MARY, the wife of CLEOPAS, and MARY from the city MAGDALA stood near the cross. 26. Jesus saw HIS mother and HIS dear friend standing near the cross. Jesus said to HIS mother, "Woman, there is your son!" Then HE said to JOHN, "There is your mother!" 27. From that day forward JOHN took-care-of MARY in his home. 28. Then Jesus knew that everything was-finished, and that the Bible verse would truly happen Jesus said, "I thirst." 29. Near the cross was a jar of sour wine. A soldier put a sponge filled with wine on a stick and held that near HIS mouth. 30. Happened Jesus tasted the wine, Jesus said, "IT IS FINISHED!" Then HIS head bowed-down and HIS breathing-stopped. [A] EASTER SUNDAY INTROIT: Praise God! Christ arose same-as HE said. Christ arose from the dead. Praise God. Give thanks to the Lord, because HE is good; HIS love continues forever. Let HIS people now say that HIS mercy continues forever. People pushed me and I almost fell, but the Lord helped me. I will thank YOU because YOU answered me and saved me. The stone that the builders threw-away now becomes the chief stone for the corner. Now is the day that the Lord made; we will be-excited and be-happy in HIM. Blessed is the person coming in the name of the Lord; in the house of the Lord we bless YOU. COLLECT: O God, YOU gave YOUR only Son to suffer death on the cross for our salvation, and YOU freed us from the pain of death by Jesus' glorious arising. Help us to kill our sins every day so-that we can live with Jesus forever in happiness. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ACTS 10:34-43 34. Then PETER spoke: "Now I truly understand. God doesn't pet one person. 35. Indifferent your nation, if you honor God and you do correct things, God accepts you. 36. God sent HIS word to the Jewish people to announce peace in Jesus Christ...Jesus is the Lord reigning over all people. 37. You know the things that happened in the whole country of the Jews, after JOHN preached and baptized. 38. God gave to Jesus the Holy Spirit and power, and Jesus began in GALILEE and traveled around doing good and healing people bothered with evil spirits, because God was with Jesus. 39. We saw everything Jesus did in the Jewish country and in the Holy City, and we can tell about it. The people crucified Jesus and killed HIM. 40. But God raised Jesus in the third day, and Jesus showed HIMSELF to us. 41. Not to everyone, but to those people God chose to be witnesses. We ate and drank with Jesus after HE arose from the dead. 42. Jesus commanded us to preach to the people and warn the people that Jesus is the man God made to judge the living and dead people. 43. All the prophets announce that everyone believing in Jesus will have the forgiveness of sins." COLOSSIANS 3:1-4 1. Now if you became alive with Christ, be-eager for the things in heaven. That is the place that Christ reigns same-as God. 2. Continue thinking about heavenly things and not about the things on earth. 3. Because you died and your life now is-hidden with Christ in God. 4. Happens that Christ, the center of our life, comes with glory, then you will also go with HIM in glory. GRADUAL: Christ arose from the dead. God the Father blessed Jesus with honor and glory. God made Jesus the King to reign everything God made; God put everything under Jesus' feet. MATTHEW 28:1-10 1. After the worship day on the first day of the week early-in-the-morning, MARY MAGDALENE and the other MARY went to see the grave. 2. That morning happened an earthquake. And angel came from heaven, moved the large stone from the door, and sat-down. 3. The angel's body shone brightly, and the clothes were white same-as snow. 4. The soldiers were frightened and stood paralyzed. 5. The angel said to the women, "Don't be-afraid. I know you want to see Jesus. HE died on the cross. 6. Jesus is not here. Jesus arose the same-as HE said. Come! See the place HIS body laid here before. 7. Go quickly and tell Jesus' friends. Jesus arose from the dead. Jesus is-going to GALILEE. You will see Jesus same-as I told you." 8. The women leaving the grave with surprise and joy hurried to tell the friends. 9. On the way to town the women met Jesus. Jesus said, "Be-happy!" The women knelt and touched HIS feet and worshipped HIM. 10. Then Jesus said, "Don't be-afraid. Go, tell MY friends to go to GALILEE and they will see me there." [A] SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER INTROIT: You must want the pure spiritual milk, same-as new born babies want milk, that you can grow in your faith, now that you tasted that the Lord is good. Praise God! Thank the Lord, shout HIS name, tell the nations all the things God did. Sing to God, sing praise to HIM; tell all HIS wonderful works. Give glory to HIS holy name; you people searching-for the Lord be-happy in your heart. Search-for the Lord and HIS strength; search continually. Remember the wonderful things HE did, HIS works and HIS judgments. HE remembers HIS agreement forever that HE ordered for thousands of years. COLLECT: Almighty God, we celebrated with happiness the day of our Lord's arising. Now we ask for the help of YOUR love to show the power of the arising in all we say and all we do. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ACTS 2:14a, 22-32 14. Then PETER stood-up with the other friends and spoke loudly for all the people to hear. 22. "You people of ISRAEL, attend to these words! Jesus from NAZARETH, God showed HIS agreement for this Man with wonderful happenings among you, same-as you know and remember very good. 23. But God, following HIS plan from long ago, let you take Jesus and use evil men to crucify HIM and kill HIM. 24. Then God freed Jesus from death and raised HIM, because death couldn't hold HIM. 25. DAVID wrote these words about Jesus, (Ps. 16:8-11) 'I always see the Lord in-front-of ME. HE is at MY right hand. HIS power helps ME. 26. Now MY heart is-happy, and I speak words of praise; also MY body rests with hope. 27. Because YOU will not leave MY soul in the grave, and YOU will not let the body of YOUR Holy Son dissolve. 28. YOU show ME ways of life; YOU fill ME with happiness, because YOU are with ME." 29. Dear friends and brothers and sisters, let me speak clearly to you about our grandfather DAVID. He is dead and buried. DAVID'S grave is still here today. 30. DAVID was a prophet. He remembered God promised him that one of his sons will be the Christ and sit on his throne. (Ps. 89:3-4) 31. DAVID saw far into the future and spoke about the arising of Christ, that God would not leave HIS soul in the grave, and would not allow HIS body to dissolve. (Ps. 16:10) 32. God raised Jesus...and we all saw that happen! I PETER 1:3-9 3. Let us praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God in HIS great mercy gave us a new birth by raising Jesus Christ from the dead. 4. So-that we can live and hope for God's promised gift. God's gift is holy; HIS gift can't be-destroyed; HIS gift is always here for us, and we will receive that gift in heaven. 5. The same-as you believe, you are protected by God's power until you receive your gift, and you will get that gift on the last day. 6. That makes us enjoyable, although now for a little time we must suffer various tests. 7. You know that gold is tested with fire to make the gold pure and gold can be destroyed. Your faith is tested also to make you have a pure faith. Then you will have praise and glory and honor on the day Jesus Christ comes again. 8. You never saw Jesus, but you love HIM. You don't see HIM now, but you believe in HIM. 9. Your faith fills you with great happiness, and through your faith you will receive God's gift, the salvation of your soul. GRADUAL: Christ arose from the dead. God the Father blessed Jesus with honor and glory. God made Jesus the King to reign everything God made; God put everything under Jesus' feet. JOHN 20:19-31 19. On the first day of the week in the evening, the twelve friends locked the doors, because they feared the Jewish leaders. Then Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace to you." 20. After Jesus said this, HE showed them HIS hands and HIS side. Then the friends were happy because they saw the Lord. 21. Then Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you. Same-as MY Father sent ME, I also send you." 22. After saying that, Jesus breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23. If you forgive the sins of anyone, their sins I forgive. If you refuse to forgive their sins, I will not forgive their sins." 24. But THOMAS was not with the twelve friends during Jesus' appearance, and THOMAS was one of the twelve. 25. Then the other friends told THOMAS, "We saw the Lord." But THOMAS said, "Except I see the nail holes in HIS hands and except I touch it, and except my hand touches HIS side, I will not believe." 26. After eight days Jesus' friends again were in the house, and THOMAS was with them. They locked the doors, but Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace to you." 27. Then Jesus said to THOMAS, "Your finger touch MY hand and see. And touch MY side. Don't doubt, but believe." 28. THOMAS answered, "My Lord and my God." 29. Jesus said to him, "Because you see ME, you believe? Happy are people with faith in ME, indifferent they never seen ME." 30. Jesus did many other wonderful works in-front-of HIS friends, but all those things are not written in this book. 31. But this story is written in this book so-that you can believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. And through your faith you can have eternal life in Jesus' name. [A] THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER INTROIT: With YOU, Lord, is perfect happiness. Near YOUR right hand is happiness forver. I shall praise YOU, O Lord, because YOU helped me, and YOU didn't let my enemies laugh at me. O Lord, my God, I called to YOU and YOU healed me. O Lord, YOU led my soul from the grave; YOU saved me from going to hell. Sing to the Lord, you dear people; praise HIS holy name. Because HIS anger is for a short time, but HIS love stays for a long time; crying maybe will continue all-night, but happiness begins in the morning. COLLECT: O Almighty and eternal God, YOU show us that YOU finished saving us through the arising of our Lord Jesus, help us to show in our lives the same-as we confess with our lips. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ACTS 2:14a, 36-47 14. Then PETER stood-up with the other friends and spoke loudly for all the people to hear. 36. "Now, I want all people in ISRAEL to understand clearly...God made that same Jesus, you crucified HIM, God made HIM Lord and Christ (Promised Savior)." 37. These words from PETER bothered their consciences much. They asked PETER and the other men, "Dear friends and brothers, what must we do?" 38. Then PETER answered them, "Change your hearts and get baptized each one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39. Because this promise is for you and for your children, and to people in other nations, to every person our Lord calls." 40. And PETER continued to teach and encourage with many more words and warned, "Save yourselves from these stubborn and evil people." 41. Then the people that happily accepted PETER'S words got baptized. On that day about 3,000 persons were added to the Church. 42. And the people continued believing the things Jesus' friends taught, and continued in fellowship, and continued with the Lord's Supper and with prayers. 43. Each person had a great respect, and the twelve friends did many wonderful works. 44. And all believers met together and shared everything they had with one-another. 45. They sold their lands and all they had and shared with poor people according to each one's need. 46. All the believers agreeing in heart went daily to the temple for worship; they met in homes for the Lord's Supper and enjoyed their meals with praise and thanksgiving. 47. They praised God, and all the people liked them. Every day the Lord added to the Church those being saved. I PETER 1:17-21 17. Happen you pray to God, you name HIM Father. HE judges all people the same. HE judges people by the things they do. Now, during the time you live on earth, continue to honor HIM. 18. You know HE made you free from the old worthless life you had before. God didn't use gold or money; those things melt-away. 19. HE made you free with the expensive gift of the blood of Christ, the same-as the blood from a clean perfect lamb. 20. Before God made the world HE chose Christ. And now Christ came to help you. 21. Through Jesus you believe in God. HE made Jesus rise from the dead and give HIM glory. Now you hope and trust in God. GRADUAL: Christ arose from the dead. God the Father blessed Jesus with honor and glory. God made Jesus the King to reign everything God made; God put everything under Jesus' feet. LUKE 24:13-35 13. On the same day Jesus arose from the dead two of Jesus' friends walked toward a city named EMMAUS, about seven miles past JERUSALEM. 14. The two men discussed about everything that happened to Jesus. 15. Then while they talked, Jesus HIMSELF met them and walked with them. But their eyes remained dark, and the two men didn't-know HE was Jesus. 16. Jesus asked, "What are you two talking about?" 17. They stopped walking and stood with sad faces. 18. One of the men, named CLEOPAS, said, "You are the only visitor in JERUSALEM not knowing the things that happened here the past few days?" 19. Jesus said, "Why? What happened? Explain to ME." CLEOPAS answered, "All the things that happened to Jesus from NAZARETH...Jesus was a wonderful prophet. Both God and all the people honored Jesus' words and deeds. 20. But our chief priests and leaders condemned Jesus to death and crucified HIM. 21. We hoped Jesus would save the Jewish nation. But Jesus got killed three days ago. 22. And now several women from our group surprised us. Early this morning the women went to the grave. 23. But they couldn't find the body of Jesus. The women came to us saying they saw a vision of angels. The angels said that Jesus is alive. 24. Then several of our friends went to the grave and saw the empty grave same-as the women said. But our friends didn't see Jesus. 25. Jesus said, "You foolish men! You are slow to believe everything the prophets wrote! 26. The Savior must suffer that way, then enter HIS glory, Correct?" 27. Then Jesus explained to them all the writings about the Savior, beginning with the books of MOSES and the books of the prophets. 28. They finally came near the city. Jesus seemed HE was going father. But the two men said, 29. "No, please stay with us. The time is almost night, and it's becoming dark now." Jesus accepted the invitation and stayed with them. 30. Happened all the men sat to eat, Jesus took the bread, blessed and broke the bread and gave it to the men. 31. Then their eyes opened, and they knew that Man was Jesus! But then Jesus disappeared. 32. The two men said to one-another, "Truly our hearts burned while Jesus talked with us on the road and while HE explained the Holy Writings to us, Correct?" 33. Then quickly the two men leaving went to JERUSALEM and found the eleven friends and all the people with them. 34. And the eleven friends said, "The Lord is really risen! Jesus appeared in-front-of SIMON!" 35. The two men explained everything that happened on the road, and the way Jesus showed HIMSELF through the breaking of the bread. [A] FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER INTROIT: I am the Good Shepherd; I know MY sheep and MY sheep know ME, and I give-up MY life for the sheep. The Lord is my shepherd, I need nothing. HE makes me lay-down in green growing places, HE leads me near the quiet rivers, HE supports my soul. HE leads me on the correct ways because-of HIS name. Happens I walk through the dark valley named death, I will not fear trouble, because YOU are with me. YOUR wooden stick and YOUR shepherd's staff comfort me. YOU prepare for me a table in-front-of my enemies; YOU pour perfume on my head; my cup is full and overflowing. Yes, YOUR goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will live in the Lord's house forever. COLLECT: Almighty God, mercy filled Father, because YOU awake from death the Shepherd of YOUR sheep, fill us with the Holy Spirit that we will hear the voice of our Shepherd and follow HIM that sin and death will never take-away us from YOU. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ACTS 6:1-9; 7:2a, 51-60 1. During these days the number of Christians grew larger, and the Greek people complained that the Greek WIDOW ladies speaking only Greek the people forgot about them and they didn't receive much food during the daily sharing of food the-same-as those WIDOW ladies speaking Jewish. 2. Now the twelve friends called a meeting of all believers and said, "It is not correct for us to stop teaching God's Word and instead serve tables. 3. Now then, dear brothers, look around among you and choose seven men -- good, honest men, full with the Holy Spirit and wisdom -- and let them control this food program. 4. Then we can use our time to pray, and to preach, and teach God's Word." 5. The whole group accepted this idea. Now they chose names: STEPHEN, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit; PHILIP; PROCHORUS; NICANOR; TIMON; PARMENAS; and NICOLAS -- he joined the Jewish Church at ANTIOCH. 6. These seven men stood in-front-of Jesus' twelve friends and they prayed for them and laid their hands on them in blessing. 7. God's Word continued to spread, and the number of followers in JERUSALEM grew and grew greatly. Also a large group of Jewish priests believed and obeyed God's Word. 8. STEPHEN received a great blessing. God gave STEPHEN power to do wonderful works and to show proof from God to the people. 9. But some Jewish people from one of the churches came and argued with STEPHEN. Their Jewish church was for people from CYRENE and ALEXANDRIA. All the people came and argued with STEPHEN. 7:2. STEPHEN answered, "My Jewish fathers and brothers, attend to me. 51. You stubborn Jewish leaders! You haven't given your hearts to God! You won't listen to HIM! You are always against the things the Holy Spirit tells you. Your fathers did the same thing, and now you are same-as them. 52. Your fathers did bad things to every prophet. Those prophets said long ago that Jesus would come. But your fathers killed those prophets. And now you are against Jesus and you killed HIM. 53. You are the people that received the law of MOSES. God gave you this law through HIS angels, but you don't obey this law!" 54. The Jewish leaders heard STEPHEN say those things, and they became angry. They stood grinding-their-teeth at STEPHEN. 55. But STEPHEN was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he looked to the sky, and he saw God's glory with Jesus standing at the right. 56. STEPHEN said, "Look! I see heaven open. And I see the Son of Man standing near God at the right!" 57. Then all the Jewish leaders shouted with a loud voice. They covered their ears with their hands, and ran together against STEPHEN. 58. They lead STEPHEN outside the city and threw rocks at him until he died. They spoke lies about STEPHEN, and gave their coats to a young man named SAUL to hold. 59. STEPHEN prayed during this time and said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!" 60. STEPHEN fell-down kneeling and shouted, "Lord, don't blame them for this sin!" Then he died. And SAUL agreed that was a good thing to kill STEPHEN. I PETER 2:19-25 19. It is a fine thing if a person wants to please God and patiently suffers while someone does wrong against him. 20. You get no praise if you sin and you patiently accept the punishment for that sin. But if you patiently accept the punishment for doing good, then you get the praise from God. 21. This is God's plan for you, because Jesus HIMSELF accepted the punishment for you, and Jesus gave the example to you, so that you will follow Jesus' way. 22. Jesus never sinned, and Jesus never spoke one lie. 23. Happened other people mocked Jesus, then Jesus didn't mock them. Happened Jesus suffered pain, no angry words did Jesus speak; but Jesus let the righteous judge, God, decide the correct and wrong things. 24. Jesus accepted our sins and gave HIS body to be nailed to the cross, so that our sins would die on that cross, and we would begin a new righteous life. By Jesus' bleeding-hands you become healed. 25. You were the same-as lost sheep, but now you come again to the Shepherd taking-care of you. GRADUAL: Christ arose from the dead. God the Father blessed Jesus with honor and glory. God made Jesus the King to reign everything God made; God put everything under Jesus' feet. JOHN 10:1-10 1. "Honestly I tell you, if a man doesn't enter the sheep yard through the door, but he enters another way, that man is a thief and steals. 2. But the Shepherd of the sheep enters through the door. 3. The gate keeper opens-the-gate to HIM, and the sheep hear HIS voice, and HE calls to HIS sheep with their names, and HE leads them out. 4. After HE leads all HIS sheep out, then the Shepherd goes first and the sheep follow HIM, because they know HIS voice. 5. They will not follow another man, but they escape from him, because they don't-know the voice of the other man." 6. Jesus told this hard picture language to HIS friends, but they didn't understand HIS words to them. 7. Again Jesus said, "Honestly I tell you, I am the only door for the sheep. 8. All the other men before ME were thieves and stole; but the sheep didn't attend to them. 9. I am the only door. If anyone enters through ME, then God saves him. And he will enter and leave and find good food. 10. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came because then they can have life and have life much better." [A] FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER INTROIT: In a short time you will not see ME, and then later you will see ME. I will give glory to YOU, my God, my King, and I will praise YOUR name forever. Every-day I will praise YOU and celebrate YOUR name forever. The Lord is full-of mercy and kindness, slow to anger and full-of much love. All YOUR works will thank YOU, O Lord, and YOUR holy people will praise YOU. My mouth will speak words of praise to the Lord, and let all people praise HIS holy name forever. COLLECT: O God, make the wishes of YOUR faithful people the same-as YOUR wishes. Make us love the things YOU command and make us want to have the gifts that YOU promise. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ACTS 17:1-15 1. PAUL and SILAS traveled through the cities named AMPHIPOLIS and APOLLONIA and came to the city named THESSALONICA. That city had a Jewish church. 2. PAUL went to the Jewish church every Saturday for three weeks to discuss the Holy Writings with the people. 3. PAUL explained the Holy Writings and showed the promised Savior must suffer, die and arise from death, and that Jesus is the promised Savior. 4. Some of the Jews, and some of the Greek people believing in God, and many of the wives of the leaders believed the words of PAUL and SILAS. 5. But the Jewish people not believing became jealous, and they hired some bad men from the city to begin trouble in the city. They went to the house of the man named JASON searching for PAUL and SILAS. 6. But they didn't find them, and so they pulled JASON and some other Christians and brought them in-front-of the city officials. The people shouted, "Those two men made trouble all over the world and now they are here. 7. They are visiting JASON'S house. They speak against the laws of the Roman king by teaching about another king named Jesus." 8. The leaders of the city and the people became upset. 9. JASON and the other believers must pay a tax, but then they were freed. 10. That same night the believers sent PAUL and SILAS to another city named BEREA. PAUL and SILAS went also to the Jewish church again. 11. The Jewish people in BEREA were better people than the people in THESSALONICA, because they eagerly studied the Holy Writings and wanted to know if these things were true. 12. Many of the Jewish people, and important Greek men, and women believed in Jesus. 13. But happened the not believing Jews from THESSALONICA heard that PAUL preached in BEREA, then they came to BEREA and made trouble for PAUL and SILAS. 14. Now the believers sent PAUL away in a boat quickly. But SILAS and TIMOTHY satyed in BEREA. 15. Some believers went with PAUL to the city named ATHENS. These believers then went home again with a letter from PAUL to SILAS and TIMOTHY asking them to come to ATHENS shortly. I PETER 2:4-10 4. Come to Jesus, the living Rock. People didn't-want Jesus, but God chose Jesus same-as a precious Rock. 5. And let yourselves become built same-as living stones to make a spiritual temple, make yourselves holy priests bringing spiritual gifts that God happily accepts through Jesus Christ. 6. The Holy Writings says, "See, I am putting an important stone in the city named ZION, and if you believe in HIM, you will never be-disappointed. 7. HE is precious to you believers, but to those non-believers throwing-away that Rock, HE becomes the chief important stone; 8. A stone that the non-believers will fall-over and give them much trouble, because they go against HIM, and that is God's purpose. 9. But you are a special people, same-as priests and kings, you are a holy group, saved by God so that you can tell about HIS wonderful works. 10. HE brought you out of darkness named sin into the light from heaven. In the past you weren't a group a people, but now you are God's people. In the past you received no mercy, but now you received God's mercy. GRADUAL: Christ arose from the dead. God the Father blessed Jesus with honor and glory. God made Jesus the King to reign everything God made; God put everything under Jesus' feet. JOHN 14:1-12 1. Jesus says, "Don't feel troubled. Believe in God, and believe in ME. 2. In MY Father's house are many rooms. If that wasn't true, then I would tell you, because I am going to prepare a place for you. 3. And happens I leave and prepare a place for you, I will come again and bring you home with ME so that you will be in the same house that I live. 4. You know the place I am going." 5. THOMAS said to Jesus, "Lord, we don't-know the place you are going. How can we know the way?" 6. Jesus answered, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through ME. 7. If you learned to know ME, you will also know MY Father. From now-on you know God and finished seen God." 8. PHILLIP said to Jesus, "Lord, show us the Father; that's enough proof for us." 9. Jesus answered, "I stayed with all of you a long time, and you don't-know ME? PHILLIP, if you see ME, you finished seen the Father. Why do you ask to show you the Father? 10. Do you believe I am in the Father and the Father is in ME? The things I tell you don't come from ME, but the Father living in ME tells you these things. 11. Believe ME; I am in the Father, and the Father is in ME. Or believe ME because of the wonderful works I do. 12. I tell you the truth, if you believe in ME, you will do the same wonderful works I do, and you will do greater things, because I am going to the Father." [A] SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER INTROIT: Come and listen, all you people honoring God; let me tell-you the things God did for me. Shout with happiness to God all you on earth! Sing about the glory of HIS name; give glory to God with praise! Praise your God, all you nations, let all people hear your praise; because God keeps us alive and doesn't let our feet slip. Praise God, because HE heard my prayers and showed much love to me. COLLECT: Lord, because YOU promised to give us the things we ask in the name of YOUR only Son, teach us correctly to pray and with all YOUR holy people to give-YOU worship and praise. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ACTS 17:22-31 22. Then PAUL stood in-front-of the city leaders on MARS hill and said, "Men of the city named ATHENS, I see you are religious in every way. 23. While I walked through your city, I saw the things you worship, and I saw an altar with the words written 'To the Not Known God'. Now I will tell you about this God that you don't-know. 24. That God made the whole world and everything in the world, and HE is the Lord reigning over the land and the sky. HE doesn't live in a temple built by people. 25. That God gives life and breath and everything to people. HE doesn't need any help from people. God has everything HE needs. 26. God started with one man, and then made all the different people living in the world. God decided the time and place they should live. 27. God wanted the people to search-for HIM and find HIM, because HE is not far from any of us. 28. We live and move and are with HIM. Some of your poets said, 'We are HIS children.' 29. We are God's children, and now you must not think that God is same-as gold, silver, or stone, carved from a man's imagination. 30. In the past people didn't understand God, but God forgave that. But now God tells all people to show sorrow for their sins. 31. God decided a specific day that HE will judge all people in the world. God chose Jesus a long time ago for that job, and God proved that by Jesus arising from death!" I PETER 3:15-22 15. Honor Christ in your hearts. Let Jesus be king. Always be-ready to answer to anyone asking you to explain your hopes, but show kindness and respect. 16. Keep a humble heart, so-that those people criticizing your good life in Christ will feel ashamed about their criticism. 17. If God wants that to happen, truly better to suffer for doing correct things, than to suffer for doing wrong things. 18. Because Christ died once for our sins; the holy Jesus died for us guilty sinners; so-that Jesus can bring us in-front-of God. Jesus' body died, but the Holy Spirit made Jesus become alive. 19. And HIS Spirit went and preached to the spirits in jail. 20. Those spirits refused to obey God a long time ago during the days of NOAH. God waited patiently for them while NOAH built the boat. Only eight people were-saved by the water. 21. Same now water saves you in baptism. That isn't washing dirt from your body, but asking God for a pure heart, because Jesus arose from death. 22. Now Jesus ascended to heaven and reigns over all angels, all kings, and all powers. GRADUAL: Christ arose from the dead. God the Father blessed Jesus with honor and glory. God made Jesus the King to reign everything God made; God put everything under Jesus' feet. JOHN 14:15-21 15. If you love ME, you will do the things I command. 16. And I will ask the Father, and HE will give you another Comforter to stay with you forever. 17. That Comforter is the true Holy Spirit. Non-believers can't accept HIM, because they don't see and don't-know HIM. You know HIM, because HE lives with you, and HE will be in your heart. 18. I will not drop you same-as children without parents. I will come again to you. 19. In a short time people will not see ME anymore. But you will see ME. Because I will live again, you also will live again. 20. Then you will know that I am together-with the Father, and you together-with ME, and I together-with you. 21. If you know MY Commandments and obey that, then you show your love for ME. And if you love ME, MY Father will love you, and I will love you, and I will show MYSELF to you. [A] THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD INTROIT: God ascended with shouting; the Lord ascended with trumpets. The Lord God says to my Lord: "Sit near MY right hand until I put your enemies under your feet." The Lord promised and HE will not change; "You are a priest forever, same-as the family MELCHIZEDEK." The Lord near your right hand will destroy kings in the day of HIS anger. COLLECT: Almighty God, we believe YOUR only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, ascended into heaven, we ask that we can also with heart and mind ascend and continually live in heaven with HIM. HE lives and reigns with YOU, Father, and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ACTS 1:1-11 1. Dear friend of God, in the book I wrote before, I told about everything that Jesus did and taught. 2. Until that day Jesus went-up to heaven after HE gave orders from the Holy Spirit to HIS chosen friends. 3. After Jesus' suffering and crucifixion HE in many ways with strong proofs showed HIS friends HE was-alive while HE appeared to them for 40 days and talked to them about the kingdom of God. 4. Meeting with HIS followers, Jesus commanded them not to depart from the city JERUSALEM, but to wait for the promise from the Father - Jesus before told them about that promise. 5. Jesus reminded them, "JOHN baptized with water, but in a few days you will get-baptized with the Holy Spirit." 6. Again, happened Jesus met with HIS followers, they asked HIM, " Lord, do YOU intend now to establish again the free kingdom of ISRAEL?" 7. And Jesus answered them, "It-is-not for you to know the plans of the Father. Only HE has the power to decide the time and day. 8. But happens the Holy Spirit comes on you, then you will receive power and will teach and preach about ME 1) in JERUSALEM; 2) in all JUDEA; 3) in SAMARIA; and 4) to the far places on earth." 9. Happened Jesus finished speaking, while the followers watched, HE ascended, and a cloud took-hid HIM and they couldn't see HIM anymore. 10. While they stood staring-up into the sky watching Jesus ascend, two persons clothed in white stood next-to them. 11. The two asked, "You men from the country GALILEE, why do you stand here staring-up into the sky? That Jesus, exact same-as you see HIM ascend - HE will come-down here again exact same-as you see HIM go-up!" EPHESIANS 1:16-23 16. I remember you in my prayers and always thank God for you. 17. I ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, to give-you HIS Spirit to make you wise and to show the truth to you while you are learning to know HIM better. 18. And to open your minds so-that you will know the reason HE called you, the wonderful glorious gift HE gives to all HIS holy people. 19. And the great power working in us believers. 20. That is the same power that arose Jesus from the dead and made Jesus the King in heaven; 21. Reigning over all kings, government people, strong leaders, lords, and every person in this world and in heaven. 22. And God put everything under Jesus' reign, and made Jesus the Chief reigning over all the Church. 23. The Church is HIS body-group, and HE fills every part of HIS body-group in every way. GRADUAL: Christ arose from the dead. God the Father blessed Jesus with honor and glory. God made Jesus the King to reign everything God made; God put everything under Jesus' feet. LUKE 24:44-53 44. Then Jesus said to them, "These are MY words I spoke to you, while I was with you. I finished all things the law of MOSES and the prophets and the PSALMS wrote about ME." 45. Then HE opened their minds, and they understood the Holy Writings. 46. And HE said to them, "In the Holy Writings we read, 'Christ must suffer and arise from the dead on the third day. 47. And people must preach REPENTANCE and forgiveness of sins in Christ's name to all nations beginning in the city JERUSALEM.' 48. You are WITNESSES about these things. 49. I will send to you the One MY Father promised. Wait in the city until you receive the power from heaven." 50. Jesus led them out to the place named BETHANY, and HE raised-HIS-hands and blessed them. 51. While Jesus blessed them, HE ascended and went to heaven. 52. They knelt and worshipped Jesus, and then happily went again to the city JERUSALEM. 53. And they continually were in the temple praising God. [A] SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER INTROIT: Hear, O Lord, I pray to YOU; show mercy to me and answer me. The Lord is my light and my savior; I will not fear. One thing I asked the Lord; that is the thing I search-for; that I can live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; to look-at the beauty of the Lord, and to think about HIS temple. Because in the time of trouble HE will hide me safe in HIS room; HE will hide me in HIS tent; HE will put me high on a rock. Happens my father and mother depart from me, then the Lord will accept me. Wait for the Lord; stay strong; let your heart be-brave; wait for the Lord. COLLECT: O King of glory, Lord of heaven, YOU live in heaven, we ask YOU please don't leave us without comfort, but send us the Spirit of Truth that YOU promised to us. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, YOUR Son, our Lord. Jesus lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen. ACTS 1:8-14 8. But happens the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will receive power and will teach and preach about ME, first, in JERUSALEM; second, in all JUDEA; third, in SAMARIA; and fourth, to the farthest places on earth." 9. Jesus finished speaking, and while HIS followers watched, Jesus ascended and a cloud hid HIM. They couldn't see HIM anymore. 10. While they stood watching the sky, two persons clothed in white stood next-to them. 11. The two asked, "You men from GALILEE, why do you stand here watching the sky? That Jesus, exact same-as you see HIM ascend -- HE will come-down here again -- exact same-as you see HIM ascend!" 12. Then the followers went again from Mt. OLIVES to JERUSALEM about one-half mile away. 13. They arrived in the city and went to the room place they since lived -- names - PETER, JOHN, JAMES and ANDREW; PHILIP and THOMAS; BARTHOLOMEW and MATTHEW; JAMES, the son of ALPHAEUS, SIMON the ZEALOT, and JUDAS, the son of JAMES. 14. All these men stayed together and continued praying eagerly. With them were the women; also MARY, the mother of Jesus, and HIS brothers. I PETER 4:12-17, 5:6-11 12. My friends, surprise not because God tests you with painful things. That is not a strange happening. 13. Be-happy, because you share in Jesus' suffering, the same you will share with Jesus' happiness on the day Jesus comes-down. 14. But if people now mock you because you love Christ, be-happy, because God's glorious Spirit is in you. They speak evil against God, but you give glory to God. 15. None of you should suffer same-as a murderer, robber, evil doer, or same-as a person bothering in other people's business. 16. But if you suffer because you love Christ, don't feel ashamed, but praise God for HIS name. 17. Now is the time of judgment to begin with God's people. And if God begins with us, then what will happen to those people refusing to listen to God's Good Story? 5:6. Become humble under God's almighty hand. Then God will honor you at the correct time. 7. Give all your worries to HIM, because HE takes-care of you. 8. Reign yourselves and be-careful! The devil is your enemy, and the devil same-as a hungry lion searches-for some person to eat. 9. Refuse to follow the devil and stay a strong believer. You know your Christian friends all over the world suffer same-as you. 10. Yes! You must suffer for a short time, but then God will make you perfect, strong, and support you. God is full of love and HE called you through Jesus to share in HIS glory. 11. HE has all power forever. Amen. GRADUAL: Christ arose from the dead. God the Father blessed Jesus with honor and glory. God made Jesus the King to reign everything God made; God put everything under Jesus' feet. JOHN 17:1-11 1. Jesus looked-up to heaven and said, "Father, the time is now ready to give glory to YOUR Son, so-that YOUR Son can show YOUR glory. 2. Because YOU gave to ME power over all people, so-that I can give eternal life to all MY followers. 3. This gift of eternal life is for those knowing the only true God and knowing that YOU sent ME. 4. I showed YOUR glory here on earth by finishing the work YOU gave ME to do. 5. And now, Father, give to ME the glory to reign with YOU the same-as I reigned before the world began. 6. I informed about your name to the people YOU gave ME in the world. Those people united to YOU, and YOU gave them to ME, and they obeyed YOUR Word. 7. Now they know, everything I have comes from you. 8. Because I told them everything YOU told ME. And they accepted and learned the truth that I came from YOU, and they believe YOU sent ME. 9. I pray for them. I don't pray for all people in the world, but I pray for those people YOU gave ME, because they are-united to YOU. 10. Everything I have, that is YOURS, and everything YOU have, that is MINE. And I receive glory from those people. 11. I will no more stay in the world, but they stay in the world. I am-coming to stay with YOU, holy Father, take-care-of those people that YOU gave to ME, so-that they will continue one united group the same-as WE are-united in one.
